Hard to blame that on the HD PVR, I' more suspicious of the Dish STB.
The thing is, going back to the 1.0.5.3 driver always fixes the sound issue. I did make one change to the receiver at the same time as the new driver (bad idea, I know). I turned off the guide update that happens every day at 3am. This coincided with the approximate time the HD-PVR crapped out with the newer drivers. The sound issue always occurs on an HD channel and from what I can tell it's always a 5.1 soundtrack. I'm using a BEV 6131 receiver which I think is equivalent to the Dish VIP211. Dish and Bell Expressvu use the same hardware. Do you have an audio setting for Digital/PCM ?

I doubt if it's related to turning off the guide update (not an option any longer for Dish). I do have a setting for Dolby Audio/PCM and Line or RF out. Does not seem to matter as far as I can tell. Next chance I get, I'm going to roll back to the 1.0.5.3 drivers.

Release notes are out on Hauppauge site for v1.5.6.1

"This driver fixes A/V sync issues with some Dish Network and FIOS set top boxes. This release also fixes IR receive issues with third party applications. In addition, this release includes changes to fix flash memory corruption problems."

I wonder if the flash memory corruption problem is why the boxes crash from time to time. I'm running 2 HD STB's (Motorola and Pace) with my Comcast cable and for the most part they are very stable now. I found that I had a bad splitter/amp that was causing a lot of signal strength issues especially on the HD channels. At that time I was running just the Motorola box and the HD-PVR would lock up every couple days, but the signal issues on HD channels was VERY bad.

Since replacing the splitter/amp and Comcast adjusting the amps on my node the signal has been very good.
I had my first lockup in a long time a few days ago and it coincided with a storm that went through and caused a lot of signal drops during that nights recordings.

I remember seeing a couple people mention data drops/sync issues overflowing buffers in the HD-PVR and/or corrupting memory as a possible cause for the lockups. My issues would tend to make me think that thought process has some validity. BTW, I'm not running this latest set of drivers, I'm still running the last big beta (1.5.6.0?)

For now I'm just power cycling the HD-PVR's (power off, wait 10 seconds, power on) every few days and that seems to keep them going without issue.

I doubt it since these "fixed" drivers crashed way more often for me than the older ones.
