Angry HD100 Locks up or powers off, can still ping it

Hi all

Anyone else having issues with the HD100 powering itself off?

I getting lockups (stops playing)
Usually followed by the HD100 powering off.

However all through this it is still pingable, I can even telnet to it, login and stay connected.

If I power it on (using the remote) nothing happens. Nether power or menu button on the front usually work either. Rarely it will power on, but it powers off as soon as I try and play anything.

The only way I can get it to work is powering off using the power switch.

Its done it 4 time in the last 3 hours. yesterday it did it once all day.

Could this be a heat issue? It about 30C round where the HD100 is (its on top of the SageTV Server)

Specs

sagetv 6.6.2.218
java 1.6.0_05
FirmWare 20090611 1

I only got the HD100 so I didnt have the hastle of getting the PC to play stuff consistantly, but at this point Im considering ditching the HD100 and going back to playing directly from the server.

Have you considered that it might be the dreaded power problem? It's more likely to be that than heat I think, 30 degress isn't exactly hot. Have you seen the threads about faulty capacitors and have you opened the box up to see if they are bulging?

Ah! Sorry forgot to say...

Already replaced the three capacitors in the power supply. About four months ago I think. No sign that the replacements are failing (theyre rated at 35 volts rather than the original 10)

Have you tried going into Program Files/SageTV/SageTV/Clients and throw away the properties file (and backup) for this extender. You can identify the right one by the MAC address.

For extra measure, you could follow the reset procedure listed on page 8 of the HD100 manual after you delete the properties file that way everything starts fresh when you turn it on.

OK!

Now tried that, Still get random strangeness!

Currently its playing a video I cant see! The web service (v2.22) shows nothing playing on the extender and Pressing stop has not effect! Playing other video shows me the picture, but stop still doesnt work (does give me a the spinning thing for a few seconds)

Edit: eventually powerd it off, restarted, and it instantly crashed again!

Smile

I reported this to Sage and got a reply saying try the beta firmware.

It now seems to work perfectly!
