RF remotes, anyone use them?
Hey guys,
So my 2 year old son just destroyed our harmony 550 remote. The remote served us well but it had it's quirks. For example, 1.) I did not care for the "click" toggle buttons. 2.) I would really like to hide the HD200 in our entertainment center and go RF. So, it's time to upgrade. I have no experience with RF remotes so can anyone recommend a decent RF remote that isn't going to break the bank? I've looked briefly and I believe the only RF that harmony makes is the 990 and $300 is way too much for a remote. Are there any around the $150 and under price point? Thanks, Peter |

I recently found a harmony 890 at sears for $120 on clearance, and I know someone who got one there for $90. RF works great, range hasn't been an issue even when using it from the driveway for outside movie night.

I've been using a Harmony 890 for a couple years now. I'm not thrilled about the button layout, but it has served me well. If you really want to go the low cost route, I believe the one-for-all line of remotes has an RF model. Personally, I'm saving my pennies to get either the Harmony 900 or a URC RF remote. One thing I can say for sure is that I can't go back to IR.
Aloha, Mike

Get a IR extender set ($28) and buy any Harmony you like. You will need to leave the small IR receiver box out in the line of site but you will barely notice it.
I bought a refurbished Harmony 520 at Compusa (Tigerdirect) after one of my 788s went bad and it works great. The 520 is only $65 new. The buttons are small but they have decent spacing and the layout just makes sense. |

URC has several remotes with RF and in your price range. Actually most URC remotes have RF capability but I am talking about ones bundles with the RF reciever/ IR emitters.
