I don't know if the RAM problem, on either my HD-PVR or USB-UIRT is what's causing my system to lock up, but it's next on my list. Rather than physically reducing memory, however, it's fairly easy to limit the RAM recognized by Windows 7 or Vista. I found this on the Hauppauge Forum:
Quote:
- Start Windows Vista/7
- Enter the command msconfig into the search/run bar
- Click on the Boot tab
- Select Windows Vista/7 and open Advanced options..
- Check the box next to Maximum memory
- And enter a value lower than 4096 (Mb)
- Click twice on OK and restart Windows.
Everything should now work.
TIP: Boot.ini alternative
- Download and install EasyBCD (1.7.2 or 2.0 Beta)
- Start EasyBCD and click on Add/Remove Entries
- Choose Windows under Add an Entry, name it for example Windows 7 (TV) and click on Add Entry
- Click on Advanced Options and choose under Select an OS your just made entry (Here Windows 7 (TV))
- Next type a value next to Deduct * MB from physical memory, for example 3000 and choose for Apply Settings.
Now you have a dual boot setup, so that you can use which settings need to be loaded on startup. (It's always better to have 4gb+ ram for games and/or some applications )
So if you want to watch tv, reboot your pc and select Windows 7 (TV).
Another hint: iReboot (same makers)
