So VC1 is fixed?

I was reading the updates for version .16 and it says;
Use the WindowsMedia Video Decoder DMO by default for VC1 video playback in DirectShow unless another decoder has been configured for it.
Other threads seem to state that this is for windows7. If so what can you do for XP? Ripped my $10 Best Buy special of T2 last night and sage completely crashed. I was kind of surprised as I had not seen it dump to the desktop like that before. Anyway, it plays in PowerDVD so I guess it isn't the hardware. Any help or pointers are welcomed. I did some searching but there were references to bobgvant(?) fixes and such but they were talking about version 6.X. Something else someone once mentioned was updating to the lastest version of wmp to get the codec.
Thanks.

This is mainly referring to windows 7 because the filter is built in. You can download it manually from MS. Just search for WMVideo Decoder DMO. I'm attempting to get the arcsoft decoders to work. I've found something interesting I need to try. Will report back with progress.

WMVideo Decoder DMO is not DXVA capable.

It's not fixed . You can't use hardware acceleration, so it's real choppy. but it will fire up so that's a start.

choppy for me with dmo and my i3 integrated graphics, but with my ati card the choppiness is gone. No DXVA either way, but for some reason codecs like ati hardware better than intel. At least in my system any way. tmt3 codecs are supposed to work well with intel and I am going to test them this weekend. I've found an interesting workaround so I'll let you guys know.

How can I undo what version 16 did to version 15 when it comes to vc1? I just noticed I updated the server to version 16 but not the client. The Sage application instantly crashes to desktop when I try to play it(T2) on version 16. On the client it plays. They have the same onboard video card....nearly identical machines. Maybe if I can figure out what the client is using I can force the server to use the same.

Version 7.0.17 seems to be worse with VC1 encoded blurays. Before I was able to play them if I chose an AC3 audio track. Now even that studders on my client. So at least for me the development is going in the wrong direction.

To update my progress on this issue. With v.20 vc1 does work. My problems are now related to the intel hd graphics not sage (finally). MPC-HC works for vc-1, but it is choppy with my video card. With my ATI card it works great. Arcsoft codec works, but again it doesn't like my video card. It will play with no video sometimes and sometimes works great.

I don't think anything has changed here recently. It's pretty much that it depends on what video card you have and what codecs you're using. For me (Nvidia card) it boils down to using the Arcsoft decoder (works with or without DXVA). The software only decoders (e.g. WMO, ffdshow) stutter heavily (not specific to Sage). The MPC decoder does not connect correctly to the Sage splitter, resulting in very strange stuttering and/or crashes, whereas it works fine outside of Sage (with or without DXVA). ffdshow dxva crashes Sage.
BTW, I think the Arcsoft problem that you mention above (no video) is something else. Does it play only the 1st time that you open the sage client, and stop afterwards? You can try whether it goes away if you disable the demultiplexer by setting "EnableSageTVStreamDemux"=dword:00000000 as a workaround

I have an onboard Nvidia video card as well. It seems to work fine with Arcsoft. The problem I have is that with each upgrade I have to manually go fix the properties file because it gets overwritten with nothing for VC1 which results in immediate crash to desktop. Maybe they could fix that somehow so you could change it in the application?

Ok. I'm glad you posted that because I had forgotten about it. However I have already set that registry setting and the problem is still there if it isn't a fresh sage install. Once I install plugins the same issue of sound but no video comes back or it just sits in pause and freezes sage (sometimes). The mpc-hc decoder, the cyperlink decoder, and the windows dmo decoder as well as the ffdshow decoder all "work" but don't play the video correctly. It will either be very blocky or stutter very bad.

Hmm, what you describe sounds a bit different. The problem (and the workaround) that I mentioned above was fixed in the last build (.21). This issue was about mkv/mp4 playback in general and not specific to VC1. So I don't recommend disabling the splitter anymore for this purpose.

You are correct disabling the sage splitter using that method doesn't do anything for my issue anyway.

I had VC1 working on.19 and .20...now I get a crash to desktop. ArcSoft decoder, works great for H.264 and the movie is "Cop Out". HIS error log talks about Sage MpegDemux.

Test with http://download.sage.tv/users/qian/7.0.21/MpegDeMux.ax, if it you get a crash, send in hs_pid*.log with sagetv_0.txt.

That file worked for me too. Is that going to be in the builds from now on or just an alternate for those who didn't have success in prior versions?
