Hulu on MediaMVP

Is it possible to get Hulu on the mediamvp? Or is that just available on the client software?

Depending on your hardware you may be able to pull this off... It could work with a powerful processor. You'll need PlayOn (not free) which does it's own set of encoding, and then you'll need to have EP's playon plugin: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...24&postcount=1

You'll have your processor doing double duty processing for Playon and transcoding for the MVP. So you may or may not have a good experience with this setup. I've never tried it.

You may want to consider an HD300 at some point. The MVP's (I have one) just aren't up to snuff anymore. The UI speed alone is reason enough to park the MVP.

Good luck to ya!

Thanks for the info. Can the HD300 act as an extender like the mediamvp? Or is it's own sagetv setup? I mean, can I just add it to my current setup as an extender?

I've got a pair of HD300's and they'll either work standalone (no live stuff) or talk directly to the SageTV server -- with the UI looking EXACTLY like whatever your SageTV server generates (e.g. v6 looks different than v7).. Hope that answers your question..

I have a couple of MVP units, although a almost never use them. They are really obsolete. The audio is very bad compared to the HD-200 or HD-300. The video is also bad. If you try to playback anything other than mpeg2 format, your computer will have to transcode the videos on the fly, so you need a fast multicore processor to do that and avoid stuttering.

I did try Hulu and Netflix for a fiew minutes and it did work on one of my MVP units. I am using the PlayON software and a wired network connection.

I don't know how it would do with a longer term test. I did notice occasional video imperfections on the bottom of the the SD TV I used for the testing. Although the video imperfections were minor.

Hulu and Netflix work fine on the MVP. My server is not a beast. It's only a dual core machine. I use PlayOn.

  1. Thanks for the info
  2. Are yours the MediaMVP or the newer Hauppauge MediaMVP-HD? Know the performance between these?
  3. For your hardware you share you have

--might you post the pros & cons of these 3 network media players and which you prefer for what? --as I'm sure many buying these would like to know; indeed for me, this week I'm trying to find & get a network media player to use to first as a general thin client.
Thanks!
