Question Logmein and SageTV

Is there a way to make Logmein see the SageTV UI? I had to help my wife with something but it comes up black once the UI is launched.

SageTV works fine for me with Logmein... No black screen. It's slow and there's no sound but the GUI is completely usable and visible.

When I had winxp, I almost always had the black screen for sagetv. but Win7 doesn't have that problem for me. I don't know if its the difference in settings or a OS thing. Make sure your logmein is the latest to see if that makes a difference.

I have not found a way to get LogMeIn to work with the SageTV GUI application either. Its just a 'black' screen.

I use VNC for remote control across my LAN. VNC should work outside of your LAN, but you may need to setup port forwarding in your router.

It's a good idea to have two or three ways to remote control the computer in case one of them does not work, needs to be repaired or updated remotely.

There isn't actually that much need to access the Sage UI through VNC or Logmein, since pretty much anything you can do through the UI locally can be done remotely using Placeshifter.

In Logmein, general setting, I just turned off "Use display accelerator", and all 3 of mine work fine.

I just built up a replacement Windows 7 64-bit SageTV computer to replace the XP SageTV computer. The hardware is identical and the SageTV GUI works normally, where it was just a black screen using Windows XP.

Assuming that you can use Placeshifter. I can't use Placeshifter from my place of work - I am assuming that it is because the ports are blocked. Logmein sends all its traffic through port 80 (I believe) which means it sure work from pretty much any PC.

Another option is to use the Sage Web interface.

Except for employers like mine (Fortune 500) - blocks ports AND uses WebSense to block on numeric or symbolic IP address (http and DNS proxy), all webmail, file servers, backup services, all social sites, remote control like logmein, and so on. Not happy, but I don't blame them for doing so. It's a business and as an employee/shareholder, I too don't want newspaper stories about us being hacked.

This is going to become more common given all of the cyberhacking that is picking up a lot of steam these days. If you want to do some of that other stuff you are going to need to do it on separate hardware, like an iPad, assuming your employer lets you use one of those at work.

This is yet another reason I love working for a company that gives me admin rights as well as no internet blocks of any kind. Awesome.

I hope they only give that to folks that really know what they are doing. If not then please let me know the name of the company so that I can short it ;-)

Well. We are a high level tech support company that supports some huge organizations so you don't get hired if you don't know what your doing. At least that is what I'd like to think.
