Question How to archive multi-disc bluray sets for a TV season?

I have 4 disc set of Bluray ISO's from a TV series (Season 1) that I would like to organize either under TV Recordings as individual episodes or Videos (per disc, with chapters). I would like BMTs to recognize either the individual episodes under TV recordings or the discs themselves separated by chapter/episode.

Maybe someone could tell be the easiest way to get the 4 disc TV season to show up in sageTV to playback. Currently I have 4 iso's which dont show up in sageTV.

Maybe this is wishful thinking; but, is there a 3rd party app that would automatically convert the 4 disc set into respective individual mkvs (each episode on a separate mkv)? Currently, the m2ts files are not separated into chapters. I remember SmartRipper used to be able to do something like this this for DVD (based on DVD chapters/episodes).

Thanks,
Michael

I use MakeMKV and rip each show and then name each Show_Episode_SxxExx.mkv and BMT will find all the info for you. Not automatic but still pretty straight forward and you just have to pick the video and the audio you want for each episode on the disc and then create a mkv for each.

I then add them all to my "Imported TV" storage folder and then they show up as imported TV in Sagetv. BMT will get all the episode info as well based on the show name and the SxxExx.

After u get individual files, wrems showed me this amazing tool called therenamer. And it is awesome for batch naming files. Just name the file for example

King-of-queens.s01e01.mkv

Drag it into filerenemer and it'll do everything for u. It'll perform look ups in tvdb or themoviedb. And get he showname etc.

It does a lot more and is great for a batch operations.

Thanks again wrems!

U guys should check it out.

Yeah the renamer is good but only when you already have a Showname and season episode info. When processing with MakeMKV you're left to name the episode individually.

What I do is rename one manually and test it with the renamer. The renamer can handle a variety of sxxexx info the easiest to manually fill in is just 101 for season 1 episode 1.

So I usually then go through the rest really fast by initially naming them 'Lost 101', 'Lost 202'. Best part is you can copy 'Lost 2' for lost season 2 and just quickly add the episode '02'. You can go through multiple seasons quickly that way. Then once you've done that dump them all into the Renamer and have it scrape and rename the files with the episode titles right in it and formatted however you want the end result to be.

Remember when storing your files on your server I think it's best to have multiple levels.

E:\SageVideo\TVSeries\Lost\Season 01
E:\SageVideo\TVSeries\Lost\Season 02

Etc.

This separation really helps when you need to apply batch commands with entire seasons within BMT.

I seem to be missing something. I used MakeMKV already. But, dont know how to separate episodes into separate MKV files; as, some respective M2TS files seem to contain 3 episodes.

Those are special ones! I hate those. However, you can easily deal with them too. You'll need to manually split them apart with mkvtoolnix's mkvmerge. There's a tab for splitting by timecode. Open the file in VLC and chapter select the right break point between the individual episodes and note the time code and put that in mkvmerge and it'll chop apart the big contiguous file into smaller episodic files that can be renamed and properly scraped with BMT. A little more work but you only have to this once.

Thanks for the quick replies. I'm not at my PC yet, but still have a couple more questions..

How can I tell what episodes are on what mkv files (that were produced by MakeMKV)? I just have a bunch of files called, "title00.mkv-title20.mkv. Will therename know what episode each file is by just telling it that the disc I just ripped was: For example, "BSG season 2, disc 1"; and, if there are any trailer, supplimental files, to know that they are NOT episodes and disregard them?

The renamer will not help you at that point. That is where I was trying to explain that you first need to name the files manually. It's a pain in the ass. The only way I know is to play the files and ensure that you're getting the right ones. The episodes are usually easily identified from the special features and such by their size in MB. They usually go in succession. No guarantees though. Remember with MakeMKV you can also adjust the size of the titles it will ignore. If you really only want the episodes you could bump the ignore time from 120 seconds to 20 minutes or something. That should avoid it creating mkvs for trailers and other special features.

Then you'll have to open up TVDB and look at the series by all their seasons episodes. The complete list. Then do a FIND and start typing in the name of the episode. Then manually rename the mkv to that. That's where the copy and pasting works well ignore as long you already tested the format with the renamer.

Wow, someone really has to be motivated to go through all that. I was just trying to find an easy way to get TV shows onto sageTV to watch quickly. Both me and my wife are catching up on some different TV shows and respective seasons.

Is there a way to just throw in the discs into the bdrom and just play them directly in sageTV the same way someone would with a DVD without ripping, renaming, etc? Maybe I'll have no choice but to use an external software bluray player for this.

Thanks again wrems!

What I've done, when I've played with it, is to rip them with makeMKV, which results in an MKV file for each episode. So far they've always come out in order. Then I use Flexible Renamer to rename them all at once. I used the regular expression rename to do that (under advanced rename).

You put "title.*" (or whatever matches the text part of your filenames) in the search box. And then in the replace box you put "Some Show - S01E??\e", and adjust the start number as appropriate, eg 1 for the first disc (starts with episode 1), and maybe 9 for the second depending on what the first episode on that disc is. It then renames them:
title00.mkv to "Some Show - S01E01.mkv"
title01.mkv to "Some Show - S01E02.mkv"
etc
and then for the second disc, with the updated start number:
title00.mkv to "Some Show - S02E09.mkv"
or whatever you set it to.
