But it is for this reason that I think that SJQ becomes more valuable. Sage will never be improved but you may be able to use SJQ to integrate with other frontends such as Plex. Since SJQ can trigger from various events, like a Recording Starting or Stopping you could use it to import file info into other apps especially since it makes it quite easy to hook into the SageAPI.

In the case of plex, plex already has the ability with the check of a box to monitor folders and know that there is a new file.. so not sure the advantage in this scenario.

jbrandon, can plex with your Samsung D series TV play the .mpg files recorded by SageTV? I have a Samsung D6500 BluRay player and Plex can not play the recorded files. However, the D6500 can play the recorded files when they are stored on a USB drive attached to the DVD player. (therefore the player can play the files, but Plex for Samsung can not).

Thanks,

I agree that your method is likely the way to go for Plex and I am eagerly anticipating its debut.

SJQ has many other attributes that could be useful, also.

Can Plex tell when a recording is done? This may be useful as well.

It would make more sense to just have plex make sagex api calls to determine all this. This would limit the installation needs of the sage server to just adding in a few simple (and free) plugins. Sagex services, and it's dependencies would be all that is required, and then everything else is done from the plex scaper end.

Rather then using an invalid S/E name, why not just set the folder as a Personal Media folder?

Because then there is now metadata, there are no fanart or poster, and no season episode info...

The script doesn't just append a meaningless S/E value, it actually extracts the actual S/E data from the media file and generates the "plex compliant" file name based on the metadata of the recording.

I was just using S01E01 as an example. I could have used SXXEXX but that would look like a sexting post!

Sorry, I thought wayner meant that was how you were handle files that didn't match.

That looks good in theory but we need all of the TV makers to get onboard and put this MHL functionality into all TVs.

But this does overcome the main resistance I had to buying smart TVs as the "smart" technology tends to become obsolete much quicker than the TV. Why pay a premium for a feature that is going to be useless pretty quickly.

Let's hope it gains wider acceptance than CableCard slots in TVs - do they even still make TVs with these slots?

chiledog: Yes they do seem to play all files recorded by SageTV (mpg) but you must enable episode in the file name for them to show up. I have only had that enabled for the past couple weeks so not everything is available now but there is more and more each day. My blu-ray's are 5700 I think - at least I know they are 5 series not 8.

I had a problem with one of the blu-ray players, both are the same, purchased at the same time. But one would not load the application. Had to perform a reset, upgrade the firmware and then it worked. The other loaded and worked just fine first time.

Do you know what version of the client you are using. I am using the latest (9.5.4). My recorded MPG files will not play. (most will not play. One plays a bit. All of them have the wrong time. A 60 minute show is listed as 12 minutes.)

However, I can play the files directly on the Samsung 6500 via a usb drive (ie, not using the Plex app).

Also, does the app seem a bit slow. Mine takes 5 to 10 seconds to open a library. Once I select my show, it takes 5 to 10 seconds to start playing. (Note: on my win7 client the delays are about 1 second.

Do you run wireless or wired? I can't play any video over wireless because of bandwidth. Timeline errors especially on the list could be from PMS not the client.

Wired (I try to avoid wireless if possible.). I imagine it is the client since plex win7 client plays the file correctly (correct timeline).

Also, most HD recordings do not play (through plex for Samsung). I tried an SD recording and it played. However it also had the wrong end time and only played until that time (7 minutes of a 30 minute show.). The win7 plex client played the SD show correctly.

If I have time tonight I might try older plex for samsung clients. Hopefully it is a bug recently introduced.
