sagetv trancoder

I use the transcoding capabilities to compress and archive my recordings, with that said is there anyway to delay that transcoding in the system to say 12 hours after its recorded time? I know I can stop the auto-transcoding and then schedule everything using SJQ, but I was just curious as to where the mechanism is within the system as it adds it all to the sage database and moves files so neatly without having to do whole system re-scan -- unless someone knows a way SJQ can do this without doing a whole system re-scan.

There may already be a script for SJQ out there but with it being Groovy based you could code it to react to "recording completed" events from SageTV. When the recording completes have it add it to a list of recordings to Transcode that is outside of SageTV. Then another SJQ job that runs on a schedule - after midnight for instance - and tells SageTV to transcode those files. This would keep you from rescanning the whole library for files in SJQ. There might be other/better ways in SJQ to achieve this as well. I know of no way to delay it natively in SageTV. I believe the transcode jobs are all added to the SageTV server property file when the API calls are made. This also causes the Transcoder to start and process whatever is in the property file one file at a time. Check property file repeat until no more entries.

What would be really helpful is to know how Sagetv, after it runs the transcode, directly injects the new file into the sage menu - no rescan, if I could do that with say SJQ and mediashrink, that would be ideal.

If you use the API to create the media file it is automatically put into the database.

Is there a way to say -- right now I run SJQ to "fix" files by running them through videoredo.exe, which they are then lost to Sage until I run a library scan. Is it possible to have SJQ reinject these files using the API so that sage sees them without having to run that scan.

There is an API in SageTV to add a media file. Part of what the library scan does - at least when it finds a new file.
