Getting 1000 channels but only a few uniques

Hi,

So I have just set up the TBS 6984 after some painful troubleshooting.

Sage has successfully found over 1000 channels but there are only a handful of unique channels. It looks like it's only the BBC's.

What can I do to get all the other channels that are available?

I have included my .frq and .lnb files to show you what I mean. Could I search this forum and find a suitable .frq file and swap it in?

Any advice please?

Do you get all the channels when using the dvbdream software provided with the card. If not then it will be the signal from your satelite dish.

If you do then let me know.

Please make sure that your .LNB files contain the following parameters:
Code:
sat_no:0
sat_name:"Astra (28.2)"
LNB=9750-10600-11700 pos:None opt:None
The "PredefinedDVBS.frq" file is used by SageTV to perform the channel scanning and must contain valid entries.

Alternatively, a quick way that does not require a channel scan is to install the "DVB-S Importer" plugin:
  1. Delete (make a copy first) your current ".FRQ" files
  2. Set the plugin's "Overwrite" flag to TRUE
  3. Perform a manual update via the plugin's configuration page
  4. After the update you will have fresh ".FRQ" files with a complete channel lineup
  5. Delete the channel entries you don't need
  6. Keep the plugin if you want to have the channels parameters kept up to date forever, or uninstall

Hi,

I've actually run into another issue since this. My server BSOD'd twice (each morning at 6am) and seemed to have crashed the tuner. Had to restart computer first time to get working but that didn't fix the second time. So now when I scan I get no channels found.

I've tried uninstalling sage, removing everything from the Progiram Files folder, re-installing sage but with no luck.

Kinda stuck now so I can't try to fix the problems encountered on this thread

OK, don't worry, I have the same card (two of them) and I was in the same boat as you...Apparently these cards are very sensitive to the PCI express type, also when the driver crashes you have to physically remove the plug from the power supply (trust me), wait and put it back otherwise Windows will not mount the card...Have you tried the latest TBS drivers (1.0.2.4)? They appears to be a lot more stable. Which mobo you have?

Thanks a bunch for the explanation, I was completely puzzled. One thing I still don't understand is. How can the bundled software "TBSViewer" still work and view channels but Sage cant? Do you power cycle when the machine is running.

I am still on 1.0.2.3 so i'll give the next version a try. I am using an Intel DP55KG.

Does it matter what type of PCI-e slot I put it into?

Also, the solution is an absolute disaster for me as the system is for my parents and live away. I'm going to pass on asking them to power cycle the card

I wonder is there any other solution. If that is the only solution then I could do worse than insert a switch on the power line and get them to cycle that way. No need to open the case.

I think SageTV can't because you've got incorrect LNB/FRQ files. My server switches off (but still plugged in) every night and switches on via BIOS support at 7:00 in the morning.

Please look http://www.tbsdtv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=8040 regarding Intel motherboards compatibility issues.

It shouldn't, but if you've got BSOD, 99.9% is a driver conflict. Are you running Windows in MPS or ACPI?

The card is working fine, I still have a minor naggle which I'm working on. Unfortunately the card is not officially supported by SageTV, but if the system is not for you, it is probably a better solution to use officially supported cards like Hauppauge for instance.
