DTS and DTS-HD MA audio

I've been running an intel NUC sage pc client for a little while now and I'm about get a specialized Reciever that supports 5.1 and 7.1. The only problem is that the reciever can not decode dts 5.1 or dts-hd ma 7.1. Only Dolby 5.1 (and I believe Dolby TrueHD 7.1) can it decode. But, It can take in 5.1/7.1 PCM over hdmi though. I read in some posts that its possible using ffdshow to decode Dolby and Dolby trueHD to PCM and then sending that out over hdmi to your reciever (your reciever does no decoding then).

How are you guys handling the 2 DTS formats though? I heard ffdshow can possibly only support 5.1 DTS to PCM decoding (is this true?) but not the 7.1 DTS-HD MA.

newer ffdshow versions do support decoding DTS-MA.

Ok, so you no longer need to use the arcsoft DTS-HD MA decoder library .DLL anymore?

What version are you using that supports decoding of full 7.1 DTS-HD MA and not just the 5.1 core? Thanks again for the help. I appreciate it.

Not entirely sure right now... I just install the latest ffdshow-tryouts - I think they added DTS-MA in 2010.

Looks like they added DTS-HD core decoding in Beta 6:
http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.ne...ngelogs#beta_6

I've not seen anything that says it actually decodes DTS-HD MA tracks.

Right. I'm pretty sure you still need arcsoft dll to do full 7.1. Fuzzy, unless you are using arcsoft something else is happening that is simulating 7.1 for you with DTS-HD MA sources

No, I went back and checked things, and I was using Bitstreaming for DTS-MA (at one point I was using Arcsoft, which is why i remembered actual decoding going on). Even when using arcsoft, i was passing the decoded 32-bit float through ffdshow for volume leveling.

Any way you can just get a receiver that decodes all formats? I picked up a Denon 1911 for around $2-300. Then I pass it bitstream from an Nvidia GT 640 (GT 430 works too) using ffdshow. Good guide here for the ffdshow part:

Then enable HD Audio in Sage settings.

That's the problem this is a specialized receiver and unfortunately doesn't do DTS decoding. I don't understand why DTS makes it expensive and difficult for smaller companies to license their codec, but that's whole other rant. But it looks like using ffdshow will get me 5.1 DTS core to pcm conversion to the reciever and I can use the arcsoft dll to get dts-hd ma 7.1 when I upgrade my speaker setup.

Thanks for links as well
