Windows 8.x compatible Firewire adapter card?

Anyone have any recommendations for one? I have a card based on the TI 1394 chipset and it appears Windows 8.1 Update 1 broke it. My ioMega 1394 drive which sits on that card now disconnects and reconnects since updating. Luckily I can also run that drive off of USB2, but the 1394 interface is faster.

Anyone used the StarTech cards? I think it uses a Via chipset.

I haven't setup firewire with Win 8 yet, but have you tried using the legacy driver? (this is a presumption on my part that Win8, like Win7, has a legacy firewire driver)

I've been told through the MS community forums, that the problem is Windows 8.1 and 32-bit software (like Java/SageTV). 32-bit software, running on 8.1 64-bit simply isn't supported on the 1394 interface and only native 64-bit applications will function correctly.

A number of video editing people have run into the same issue with their hardware and 32-bit programs.
