blue screen message: atikmpag.sys help

On my SageTV server, I continually get blue screens with the result error as the noted fault:

atikmpag.sys

it always happens when fast forwarding or fast rewinding through a recording. I use a Gigabyte motherboard with ATI Radeon HD4200 on-board graphics chip.

Has anyone else had this error, and if so, did you solve it?
Would installing a dedicated video card be the answer? It would have to be passive for noise reasons, but then I'm concerned with more heat being introduced into the case.

After searching the web, there are no conclusive solutions - so I was hoping a Sage aficionado had the same problem...

Has it always done this or did it just start? If it has always done it, then it sounds like the GPU isn't up to the task; that is a pretty old chip. If it's a new occurrence, then I'd be looking at doing a system restore to before it started. If that's not an option, I'd try changing video drivers.

Hi - yes, it's continually done it since the original build. No problems using media extenders, only when viewing on the server itself. Video drivers have been continually updated along the way, although ATI has more up-to-date drivers than Gigabyte does on their website for the particular motherboard.

Is there any other time that you've witnessed the machine bluescreen when Sage wasn't involved?

Almost never, but I only use the machine AS a Sage server, so it's hard to work that angle since I never try to use anything else's. FF or RW within Sage recording playback is consistent with regards to crashing.

Have you run memtest86 bootable iso on it yet? My first reaction is a problem with system memory.
