Xiaomi have put the price of the Mi Box on their website now. It's confirmed at $69. Can't see that you can buy it from them yet, though.

Do you think a Mi Box would work with a FLIRC? I'm not going to go back to juggling remotes.

The new Mi should be able to run anything a shield can, just not as fast. Should is the key word. I plan to grab one to see how good it is. I can't find my nexus player, but that little guy was good, but slow.

I just came back from my local walmart and got 5 Mi Boxes for me/friends/family

Can say that the SageTV client runs great on it, will continue to test it and report back if issues are encountered. I think this unit is a great replacement for the aging Nexus Players, still ShieldTV is faster and more responsive, but for 69usd this unit is great for living room tvs.

I checked my local Walmart and they had quite a few of these, so I picked up one, as well. I'm surprised how good this thing is. The menus fly on it. I ran the miniclient (though, an older version) and it worked great on mpeg4 stuff; mpeg2 video was shaky. It's also worh noting that the 4K playback on the thing is pretty good ...

So does the Mi box have an ir receiver on it? or is it stuck with the minimal factory remote?

No builtin IR..

Check the other thread how I managed to get full remote control on the SageTV Client using the Logitech Harmony Remote + bluetooth. So far Im able to use even the Numpads and everything on it

Yeah, a FLIRC dongle would likely be FAR cheaper than a "Logitech Harmony Remote + bluetooth"

Only drawback I can see is the lack of Ethernet. Would like to have not needed a USB dongle to hardwire.

Do you use Plex? I've seen a number of reports that Plex has issues on that box.

Sigh! This seems to always be a problem. Too bad all of my tuners are MPEG2 only AND that I like to watch in progress recordings (no transcoding).

Early user reports on the AndroidTV subreddit are mixed. I know that's not terribly uncommon for a new device, but I still think caution is warranted. There's allegedly a new version of the Shield TV coming out fairly soon (although, we said that about the Shield tablet before the successor was shelved). The general expectation is that it will just a hardware refresh intended to make it a bit cheaper. But, I'd still expect an MSRP at or above $150.

Actually grabbed a Mi Box this afternoon and gave it a spin. Also found the stuttering on MPEG-2 in the SageTV Miniclient (but only there). Did not try changing anything from default yet.
