Finally: IrDA support in Windows 10

If you wanted to run a Sage client on Windows 10 and use an infrared remote, it is finally possible.

On Monday, April 12, 2016, Microsoft released Cumulative update for Windows 10 Version 1511 in which they have included IrDA support.*

An error in the NetSetup module introduced in the first public release of Windows 10 last July resulted in IrDA support not being available in Windows 10 as it was in all prior pre-releases of Windows 10.* We have been pushing Microsoft since mid-August 2015 to fix this issue and finally they have provided one.*

However, installing the ver. 1511 Windows 10 update will not activate the drivers, but merely install them.* To activate the IrDA support on Windows 10 after installing the version 1511 cumulative update, you need to follow the instructions outlined in KB 3150989.

New images created using the next full release of Windows 10, code named “Redstone” (expected to be released sometime in Q3 2016) will automatically activate the IrDA drivers.

Links are below.

·******** KB for IrDA Drivers:* * http://support.microsoft.com/kb/3150989
·******** Windows 10 Ver. 1511 update:* https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3147458

Will Sage automatically recognize the IR once you run through this procedure? I've got a NUC with built in IR that I assumed didn't work with Sage but based on this didn't work at all.

I'm guessing if Sage recognizes the IR now I just need to go into the command section and program it to know what to do for each code.

It should. My only experience is with the Acti-Sys IrDA USB dongle. It has a green LED that blinks when it is working properly. After running the command in the MS link, I then installed the W7/8 Acti-Sys driver and the dongle started blinking.

I thought Infrared remotes (MCE, USB-UIRT, USB IR Dongles, etc) were something completely different from IrDA.

That's possible. IrDA is different from Serial IR. I'm not sure what the remotes use.

Well, end of June in Marketing-speak = Q3 (July-Sep).
