It does work I just tested it ... I can record anything that my Kangaroo PC plays including protected content as long as your device ignores it or bypasses it. Just have to test channel change do you know the HTTP syntax ? Picture and playback much better and more stable than WMC... Plus you do not have to worry about losing focus.

That's what I was trying to figure out from their API's. I don't think they have any way for a 3rd party to change the channel or see what the channel is. All I see is how to tune a client into the DVR.

I guess I might be able to use something like eventghost to send keystrokes via http.

That would be no better than WMC from a confirmation perspective. I don't have any PQ problems, so I'll likely hold out until they augment the API.

Not worth it for me also pursuing as I do not really use SageTV much ... The HDHRDVR is my preferred.

For me, it still has a long way to go, but I know great PVR software is not made overnight.

I personally still get a little irked by my content being streamed in a restricted format, but at least Silicondust has been making a great effort to allow you to stream to a large number of devices which definitely helps make that feel less restrictive. Also you are nearly guaranteed that you will never have something like Comskip running the on the protected content even once you can record it.

I thought you meant trying to capture the IP stream.

As you probably assumed, I'm sure it's encrypted the whole way or it wouldn't exactly be protected content. We're just talking about using the playback like it's a STB.

SageTV is really for technical people that love to tinker etc... for a new user I would tell them get a MYCLOUD for 100+ dollars get the HDHRDVR Install it and forget it ... No corrupted WiZ.bin to worry about no plugins that might be abandoned.... No Java to worry about.

Silicondust can remotely look at your hardware etc. and tell you what is wrong. I have quite a few users that I have moved over to the HDHRDVR a few are still reluctant ... hence why I keep a SageTV test system

And if they have someone like Cox or Comcast, no DVR either, since it is all protected. They'd be better served by just using the provider's DVR.

Will HDHRDVR let you import videos like SageTV?

No ... It is a DVR not a mediaserver. There are already great mediaservers out there like Kodi and Plex ..... It does have a KODI plugin.

I never even thought to use a PC as an STB

What format does the HDHRDVR save the recording in? Can they be imported into SageTV?
