v9, win 10, LAV filters, still no-go

LAV filters v0.70.2

Still abending on .mpeg and .mp4 vids.

Is there something more I need to do with Lav besides selecting LAV Video Decoder in Setup | Detailed Setup | Video/Audio | MPEG2 Video Decoder Filter | List all decoders... ?

Seems mildly suspicious that LAV does not appear in the initial selection list and I have to click List all decoders to see it.

I do not have an answer, but I had to comment that I have not seen the word "abend" used since the big iron days of the 1970's and early 80's. You brought back some memories, there, I have to tell you.

For you young whippersnappers that don't have big iron (mainframe) experience, abend means ABnormal END.

Hello

I can't fix your problem but I can provide a data point. I just installed SageTV client on a Win 10 laptop and the Lav decoder worked fine. The EVR renderer worked best for me. I had to select the Lav decoder like you described, selecting from all possible filters.

I too come from that big iron era. Abend's and trace maps were on the daily menu. For a walk down memory lane. the series Halt and Catch Fire kept my attention.

I do not see any attempt to even use the filter, or even actually start playback, in your log. What were you actually trying to do when that log was created?

In Win7 use the Microsoft DTV-DVD decoders for everything. You shouldn't need anything else and they work great. I have no extra decoders installed.

thanks for the reply. that decoder cleaned up my MKV playback, but didn't help with playback of MP4(stuck on single frame) or TS(no audio for files using AAC) files.

My MP4 files show a reference to Quicktime, which I don't have installed. Is it a requirement?

So, what exactly is abend in the sense of the filters? I see mention "abend means ABnormal END"... but... what does that really mean.

Video cuts off earlier than it should?
Video hangs at the end and gives system spinner?
Video crashes the whole system at the end of playback?
Crazy bright lights and blocky boxes flying across the screen in a fit of frenzy for a few seconds when it reaches the end of the video followed by a giant hairy man walking by?

...
