Getting Movies Locally but RecordedTV over WAN?

Running Sage at my home, where TV is recorded to my 24-7 PC and movies are on my NAS box.

My son-in-law has one of my HD200's which he uses to watch my RecordedTV and movies on my NAS box.

I have a backup NAS box that mirrors the first NAS box.

I would like to run the backup NAS at the son-in-law's house to give me offsite backup.

The Question:
Can the son-in-law's HD200 be configured to get still get RecordedTV over thw WAN from my PC, but get Movies from that second NAS box attached to his LAN - without messing up my own HD200?

The motivation here is that, used remotely, the HD200 seems to get it's stream from some sort of transcoding operation by the server instead of on-board CODECs- making watching movies encoded in anything but MPEG and a couple other formats is problematic - whereas, running locally, it seems able to handle anything I throw at it.

The other option would seem to be to fool the remote HD200 into thinking it was accessing those remote movies locally. My guess being that the different treatment has it's roots in broadband speeds when Sage was developed - and that said speeds over for instance, FIOS, are high enough to not required transcoding by the server...
