MakeMKV gone... maybe

I've been using MakeMKV for years to get all my discs onto my network so I can watch via extenders/apps. I went to rip a DVD using MakeMKV and the password had expired. Went to the site to get the update and it's gone... the page is all in Russian. The Google translate of the page indicated they apparently didn't pay their website hosting fee...

As I don't even have DB/DVD players at my TVs, I rely on being able to rip discs in order to watch them (via Sage). Anyone else know of any freeware software that rips discs well and isn't a malware trap? Not looking for full disc structure (though that's fine too), just a single MKV or MP4 of the main feature would do.

TIA...

Link?
I have a shortcut in my browser bar that takes me straight to the forum and it's showing the aforementioned Russian page.

On edit, I searched "makemkv forums" and found a separate path. There is a thread in the forum you mention (that I found) about how the site is down.

Ah, it's the "news and announcements" part of the forum, but only if you use the link from within the main forum page. You can google the "is free while in beta" and it takes you straight there.

Weird.

Carry on..

Check out Handbrake. It's free, it will rip to MP4 or MKV and has a bunch of functionality for re-encoding.

If you are running Unraid, you can install it as a docker container as well.

Handbrake is great, but as far as I know, it still doesn't rip from protected sources unless you use Anydvd or something similar. So in that sense it's really not an alternative to MakeMKV which does lossless rips from protected sources all within one free program.

I have Handbrake as well, but as said above...

Anyway, problem was resolved, and I replaced the previous path to the forum with the different one. I wonder why there were/are two different paths to the same place.
