Companies that attend CES? Like Directv told use that they will be introducing their own network PVR next year and switching to MPEG4 for HD...

I disagree with most people here. I was actually expecting this to happen, the missing of the estimated delivery date and the grumbling going on after. SageTV would be NUTS to give another date, once you miss one date it's probably best to keep stuff under wraps until it's ready to be released. If there is going to be a revolutionary feature, yeah I can understand keeping that quiet, but it probably wouldn't hurt to announce new features that aren't really ground breaking.

That's a different ball game.

Some people get bored very easily, don't they? I'm one of them. After I got my HTPC to play nice with my new plasma, I said to myself - SH*T - what am I going to do next? So, I bought a new server and started preparing for a smooth transition.

Revolutionary features? HDTV? It's no secret that BTV is working on that. Is that revolutionary? Hm, on a good size plasma, it's quite close. But still, it's just TV and a perfect excuse for the likes of us to sharpen our screwdrivers.

Yeah, I've been bitching on their forums for years, and they still won't give me a release date.

Sorry...it's too easy...

That's nothing... I asked my wife what we were having for dinner last night & she just said that I would find out when it was done cooking. She wouldn't even tell me _when_ dinner would be ready. That's rough.

That justifies Sage then I guess, hahaha!!

I'll be checking the site periodically, like I do now. If I see 3.0 available I'll grab it. If not, then I wont lose any sleep over it.

^^^^ The story of my life .

I stop in and check every few days to see if there was a release, or a STV update or whatever, but as long as my other half's shows get recorded every day, and comskip marks the commercials fairly correctly (on her channels it usually nails them 100%), anything else is a bonus.

I honestly would be happy if they didn't release 3.0 until late summer, early fall, so config & debug time didn't cut into my summer activities .

I am sure this is not very relevant, but just want to say that I am a new SageTV user (purchased just few weeks ago). I was testing several different products before deciding on Sage. Someone wrote earlier that users of this board are not Sage core users. Am not sure what it means, but one of the reasons I decided on Sage was because of the comments (good and bad) of the core users on these boards. Actually negative comments were more important than good comments. Seeing the complaints from experts here made me feel very secure about my purchase because most of the complaints were not about serious deficiencies in the product. So it really is thanks to users on this board that I made my purchase.

The fact that the company will not going to charge me again for the new version 3 that is around the corner was another plus. I would have waited with my purchase otherwise and use the free GBPVR product.

Some of the discussions are rather passionate here, and that is a great thing.

I'm not even sure what's the deal with all the complaints here. I mean, I don't see a mob asking release date about next Sage Recorder. So what if they took longer than expected to release SageTV 3.0, what's the problem? Now, if they suddenly decided to charge for 3.0 or not releasing it at all after stating that it was a free upgrade, then yes, we should complain. But this is not the case, yet (Ref: Studio) . According to Opus4, they are still working on SageTV 3.0 and will release it. Personally, I'm not waiting for 3.0, but rather the media extenders and possible other linux related products that they announced. I mean look at the 3.0 features in the first post by Dan Kardatzke:

- Enhanced Configuration Wizard allowing more setup to be accomplished within the Setup Wizard
- Expansion of SageTV to Linux and Media Extenders in addition to Windows
-Online Scheduling, this is not a big deal since nielm's web server is working great.
-Enhanced User interface - I'm pretty happy with Cayars STV and already customized it to just the way I wanted it. Plus there are other good STVs out there that might suit you better.
-Enhanced Configuration Wizard - I guess for people new to SageTV, this would speed up their setup time. For existing users, this is no big deal.
-Expansion of SageTV - now this is a big deal to me, as it sounds like new products added to the SageTV family, and this is what I'm waiting to see.

I assume those are the only official features of 3.0 since it was posted by the co-founder, Mr. Dan Kardatzke. Base on those new features, SageTV 3.0 is not much to get excited about. On the other hand, the expansion products are the things to look out for.

I'm wondering if OTA HDTV support could be one of the reasons for the delay of 3.0.

Things take time and im sure that theres a ton of things to do from all sides. im sure its going to knock peoples socks off.

This reminds me of something I read a few months ago about freeware where when its new people harp about how better it is, and this and that until the newness wears off then they complain about this and that when they basically have no rights to, or nothing has really changed (other than the personal feelings of the complainers) Bottom line is no one has the right to complain when its free and the money you have previously paid you gotten back in more ways than one.

No kidding. If someone tells me one thing and does another, I'm gonna call them on it and I'm going to demand an explanation. So far I have heard "they are working on it". and "other companies do this too". Nice values guys. I call a spade a spade and don't like BS. In any business or job I have been in, those type of answers don't fly. I see no reason why to accept that here or anywhere else...

BTW as for MS we have a deep partner relationship with them. You would not believe the grief our company and the other fortune 500 companies have been giving them over longhorn and its many delays and feature strippings. Thats a joke in itself and its not something to be emulated.

I am looking forward to supporting Unicode in VMR9 since we use hebrew here, and cannot use VMR9 right now(it was promised to me by an official email).

As far as sage clients are concerned, am I understanding that 3.0 will require you to purchase as seperate client license for each client?

I thought part of the draw of Sage was you purchased one client license but you could use it for all of your clients (MVPs, etc.).

Have I misunderstood this all this time? I am not yet Sage user, so I apologize if this question has been answered elsewhere. I could not find it.

Yes, it sounds like you've misunderstood -- the license for SageTV or for SageTVClient is to install & use it on 1 computer & has always been that way. So, you have to purchase a license for each computer where you want to use SageTV or SageTV Client.

Multiple Clients

Hi Opus,

I don't think I asked the question correctly. If I have 4 MVPs, the client still lives on the same computer as my main Sage installation.

So do I buy one SageTV and 4 Sage Client licenses for my one machine with four tuners or do I buy one SageTV and one Sage Client and replicate it on the same machine?

This is for both Sage 2.x and Sage 3.x that I'm asking.

One license per machine, that's all you need.

If you mean Matt's MVP client/plugin, then it uses a SageClient installation (license) on a PC, and you run 4 instances of it (1 license).
