It will display whatever is in the .smi file. Ensure you have the font you need specified in one of the captions_font settings in the .properties file for the extender.

You could test it, then we would all know.

Thanks a lot for the answer! I actually don't own the extender yet and have no experience in Sage either; that was one of my major items to clarify before I purchase one.
I guess next I just have to get one and try...
Thanks again!

I too seem to be having this issue with captions I am extracting on live streams on an HD200.

What version are you running?

When it runs out of captions, is caption playback still enabled in the options menu of the media player?

Latest beta posted recently. I'm not really even getting that far. Shortly after the recording will start my live ccextractor will run on it and will instantly create the caption file even though it has nothing in it. The extender will see the file at that point and allow me to enable external CC in the UI. No captions will come up though until I stop and restart playback at which point I would assume (not tested yet) it would allow me to see all the captions scanned up until that point that I pressed play.

Could I get you to test it with the 1.2.3c version? I'd like to know if I've broken it in 1.3.0, or if it never worked.

I am seeing a similar issue where I play a new video and the plugin keeps playing the .smi file from a previous video. And for some reason my wife doesn't like trying to read the captions from "My name is Earl" when she is watching Grey's Anatomy"... I think she is just being picky...

This is with the latest BETA 1.3.0

Ok, I actually did the test. The funny thing is that it did not work at first. I just got the squares displayed instead of russian letters. I've tried to change the font - the squares changed sizes, but nothing more. At the same time, english subtitles were displayed fine.
After that I remembered I was using version 1.3.0. After I switched to 1.2.3c - everything started to work properly.

Another thing that seems to be broken in 1.3.0: placeshifter does not display smi subtitles with imported movies. Again, 1.2.3c seems to be fine here.

Does the latest sageTV beta that supports closed captions now mean we dont need this addon anymore? I exclusively use STV Import: Closed Captions Playback for enable CC during Mute.

I'd like to know too. I'm afraid to make any changes to my setup since it works so well. My only current "issue" is I have to wait for a show to finish recording so DirMon2 can extract the subtitles via ccextractor. To do all that live without any post-processing would be golden.

The current beta doesn't include enable CC on Mute. If you want that feature, I'd suggest doing a bug submission to bring it to the devs attention.

The release notes mention embedded subtitles, but only on the HD200 currently. Don't know if that includes live recordings.

I have nto tried the new BETA yet, but I am wondering how they handle adjustments. I use your adjustment logic ALL the time. Thanks again for this plugin John.

Jon, I don't know about adjustments, but paraphrasing what I said to mkanet, if there's a feature that you want in the subtitles support, I'd suggest doing a bug submission to bring it to the devs attention.

An update on this. I'm told, CC on mute is on the todo list.

Here's an opportunity to have your say.

I'm looking for feedback on what adjustments people would like included in the built-in support.

The current import has a delay adjustment +/- 500ms and a coarse adjustment of next or previous caption.

Is the +/- 500ms adequate? or does the adjustment need to be finer or coarser?

Does anyone use the next/previous caption adjustment?

Are there any other adjustments that people would like to see in the built-in support?
Color?
Font Size?
Font?
Anything else?

[Disclaimer]No promises of any of this getting into the built-in support, but if SageTV know what you want, the chances of getting it have got to be better.[/Disclaimer]

John

For me +500 / -500 is perfect (and I use it alot because the subs while perfectly adjusted in any other player, get off synch in SageTV while playing even with the built-in support)

I use them also a lot: when I start playing because of the same SageTV problem. If you play a recording from the first frame the subs are in synch; but if you play the recording from 5 min in the file, the subs are out of synch, so you need to set a large adjustment value, then you use the +500/-500 if it goes out of synch during playback.

Color, font size and font, as well as background (finally I like in the subtitles plugin the black transparent background, it's easier on the eyes when the subs are over other text in the video). Also, I don't know if this is the case yet, but the way captions are moving whenever the osd is on is very nice.

Regards,
Stéphane.

John

I am referring to the next/previous caption adjustment. I frequently stop the playback and move through the captions in or to line them up again after commercials or commercial skips.

I only use ccextractor for my HDHR mpg files. Does the new built in support handle displaying the captions from within those mpg files so I do not have to extract them?

As far as other changes I can't think of any. I need to upgrade to the BETA and give a whirl.
