Hmm, moved IR Blaster to different USB Port, restarted XP.

Went to Learn, woo hoo it worked.. Set up in Sage and Woohoo it works there as well!! GREAT!! Thank you for your help!!

No idea if it was clean install or usb port or a bit of both

Only one NIC with 1 IP, nothing special, no firewall, virus checker were running either

Martin

I was curious if this was compatible with Vista Home edition. When I try to Edit IR Device, at the bottom left the message MCE Blaster not available. The drivers seem to be installed properly as an input device and as a USB device. When I place an IR remote in front of my MCE receiver and press a button the light in the receiver blinks so it seems to be working.

This is the MCE blaster that came with an Hauppauge PVR150 by the way.

Check that the LM Remote KeyMap Blaster service is started. Then review the trace file in C:\ProgramData\LM Gestion\LM Remote KeyMap for any errors about the blaster.

I'm not sure that the PVR150 MCE Blaster will work with LM RKM (I only have a Microsoft MCE Blaster)

Regards,
Stéphane.

Below is the contents of the svc_trace.log file for yesterday. Can it be my firewall is blocking it?

Also, it does work with Vista Home Premium. So I can go buy a Microsoft MCE blaster and not have to change my OS.

I doubt your firewall is blocking it. What you can try: stop any application that may capture the blaster (any other utilities: EventGhost, Girder, HIP, IR Server etc...), All Media Center Process (though on Home Edition no Media Center). Finally try to run the LM RKM Service with a administrator account.

No I guess whatever is giving you the "Access denied" error will also happen with a Mircrosoft Device.

New development:

Somehow Windows Media Center got installed on my computer and I was able to configure the tuner in there. So now I just have to figure out how to install and configure your software. The log file shows this...

20080212 11:27:38.369 - Verbose - Starting blaster : MCX
20080212 11:31:47.471 - Verbose - Starting blaster : MCX
20080212 11:32:23.255 - Verbose - Starting blaster : MCX
20080212 11:36:48.232 - Verbose - Starting blaster : MCX
20080212 12:41:35.468 - Verbose - Starting blaster : MCX

But the message still appears saying that it's not available. I can't imagine what other program could be using the IR as I closed Media Center and all other programs.

You have to stop all Media Center services, closing Media Center is not enough (I guess that it is either Windows Media Center Scheduler or Receiver Service that use the blaster). To be safe stop all service that begins with "Windows Medica Center" and set them to disabled. The restart LM Remote KeyMap Blaster Service check that log files doesn't contain the access denied error message. Then restart LM Remote KeyMap (so as we can be sure it reconnect to the blaster service).

Regards,
Stéphane.

Unhappy Me too

I too am having problems.

I can also only learn the first code, then it hangs.

the trace log says...
"Error evaluating received data on MCE blaster : An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host"

Help, I seem to have read pages of info, and I can duplicate lots of other peoples problems, but non of their eventual succses.

What am I doing wrong?

Regards,

Bob

I can reproduce the issue (it is specific to XP + MCE Blaster) and I just published version 3.6 that should fix (almost) the problem. You may want to try it (if you think LM Remote KeyMap is frozen just wait a little and all should be fine).

The issue is that LM Remote KeyMap is listening to device removal / arrival, but this doesn't seems to work since I introduced the blaster service. So I'll have to rework that part.

Regards,
Stéphane.

Still problems

Thanks for the quick reply, but I m still having a problem.

I can now get the code 1 straight away, (it closes the dialog box by its self and I do not have to press OK), but it still hangs if you try to do code 2.

It hangs with a screen defect and the egg timer.

I left this for a long time, but nothing happens.

The log says
20080220 18:43:49.312 - Received IR...
20080220 18:44:04.015 - Error - Error when creating Windows Vista Volume EndPoint
20080220 18:44:19.843 - Received R...

Why does it say Vista when I am on XP MCE?

Regards,
Bob

I just installed a test setup of WMC 2005 to be sure, and it works for me: the first code is learned right away, while the 2nd code freeze LM Remote KeyMap for 30sec, all other learning thereafter are fine.

So keep trying, maybe restart the Blaster service and LM Remote KeyMap once.

Otherwise, I'll release a new version (but not right now) which will remove completely device arrival / removal notifications and instead monitor power events.

Regards,
Stéphane.

No luck

I have tried restarting the Blaster service and LM Remote KeyMap lots of times, I have restarted the computer many times also. Still no luck.

If I restart them after learning code 1 and then go back in to the program, it has saved code 1, but it still hangs when you try to learn code 2.

I have left it hanging for over 1 hour.....

should i keep trying or wait for the next release?

Thanks,
Bob

No, use the next release, I just published version 3.7 with a brand new MCE Blaster support for Windows XP (IR Code already learned, must be learned again as the code format is also new).

Regards,
Stéphane.

Sorry

Sorry, it's me again!

I have tried the new software and now when I try to learn codes and I have the "learn IR code" box on screen,my blaster will not flash red.

It will flash red at all other times.

the trace log says...

20080225 17:46:42.017 - Error - Error when creating Windows Vista Volume EndPoint

What am I doing wrong?

I am ready to give up.

Does any one else know how to use a MCE blaster with Sagetv?

Regards,

Bob

What are the other logs saying (the log you pasted here is the log for the GUI part of LM RKM, the svc_trace is the one for all blaster operations).

To make a clean test :

* stop LM Remote KeyMap
* stop and restart the blaster service
* launch LM Remote KeyMap
* use the taskbar notification icon to select "Verbose" logging
* choose "USB-UIRT" as your blaster
* choose "MCE Blaster" as your blaster (switching from USB-UIRT to MCE Blaster will force the service to recreate the MCE Blaster object with Verbose log enabled)

Then try to learn a IR code (you have to put your remote close to the MCE Blaster IR receiver)

I only tested the new code on a Microsoft Blaster device, it may be possible that it will not work will all MCE Blaster devices.

Regards,
Stéphane.

Well from the logs all seems fine. To be sure I had not made any mistakes, I installed the latest 3.7 on a test computer (XP Pro) and all is working fine. I plugged in the MCE Receiver, installed LM RKM, and learned a IR code right away...

If your MCE device is a USB device, you can always install a VMWare virtual machine where you will install XP MCE on it just for testing (this is what I did for testing this on MCE 2005) what's practical with VMWare Player is that you can share USB devices (You can use EasyVMX to create an XP virtual machine: www.easyvmx.com)

Other than that you can try HIP with the EXETuner plugin, it may work for you to change channel on SageTV with the MCE Blaster.

Regards,
Stéphane.

Problems with standby after rebuild

Hi Stephane

I rebuilt my client and since then I cannot get the power button on my MCE remote to put the PC into standby. The first press will kill Sage and then the 2nd press brings up the windows dialogue where I choose [standby] [restart] [shutdown]

This used to work on this machine before the WinXP rebuild. When I look at the power button setting in the profile, it is set to 'send message' 16 0 0

Thanks

Tim

Replace this action (this is the default one) by a "Shutdown" / "Suspend" action.

Stéphane.

Can someone upload their MCE profiles? I donated to the software developer but I can't seem to find any MCE profiles that will allow me to use my remote AND IR blaster. I would like to download someones setup, rather than config it myself.
