No recordings on hard drive but everything is working

My sage software worked fine recording programs for a while. Then it started recording a lot of TV shows that would no longer play in Media Player like they had before. It suddenly started saying it wasn't the right format. I reinstalled windows and sage tv from scratch. Everything looks fine. I can watch live tv using the PVR-USB2 and sage tv. My favorites show up and the recording schedule shows upcoming programs ready to record but nothing is ever on the hard drive. I have over 100G of free HD space and I've searched the hard drive to verify they aren't recroding in some mysteriouis folder. Why is sage tv not recording? It runs in the system tray without shutting down. The comptuer is rarely used and never shut down. HELP

Would you mind posting your sage.properties file? It is found in c:\program files\sagetv\sagetv

According to this, your files should be saving in c:\dvr. They are not there? Is this running under a restricted user?

The recordings are not there. That folder is shared out for anyone to use. My wife and I are unrestricted users (my kids are restricted). I have always worked with sage tv from my logon so I assume the answer is no.

So if you launch SageTV, and play a live tv channel. Is the file there in the directory? Look while the show is playing. If not, we'll need to turn on debug logging.

I never noticed that before but while I watched live TV (Petticoat junction) a file appeared in C:\DVR called Petticoat. What does that mean?

PS: I REALLY appreciate your help on this.

Maybe Sage thinks you are out of space. This could happen if you have Norton undelete protection enabled for that drive and probably other reasons.

Norton is not installed on that machine. I use Zone alarm. What other reason might it think I am out of space? Plus if it thinks I am out of space would it be recording live TV on the drive?

When you watch "live tv" it is actually delayed by about 2-3 seconds as the stream is written to disk and then played. Would you mind watching a short show and while it is playing, press record to actually tell sage to record it?

When the show is over and another starts, check the directory to see if the recorded show is in there. I am just trying to establish that recording works, so we can move on to scheduled recording issues.

i have done as you asked, but I am pretty certain it will work. By the time I got your message and went to that PC, Operation Petticoat had ended and Butch Cassiday had begun. I went to C:\DVR and I saw the the recording of Operation Petticoat was there (I don't belive I requested this). I double clicked on Operation Petticoat and WMP was able to play it. I then went to live TV and asked it to record Butch Cassiday. It didn't appera to work so I did it two more times. When I looked at C:\DVR there are three Butch Cassiday files so I think it is recording the show three times (my fault). I suspect this will work as expected. how do I trouble shoot the recording schedule issue?

The FAQ has help on turning on debug logging. I would enable that, let a favorite schedule pass, then upload the log.

i have turned on debug logging as instructed and a favorite is in the recording schedule to start at 6PM central time today (ending at 7PM central time). BTW, the recording you had me try of Butch Cassiday recording correctly and plays back correctly. If the favorite records on schedule than I will have no explanation for what is going on. I am going to log off of Windows (but not shut down) so that I can duplicate the normal conditions.

I do run in service mode and in the past (when it was working), it would record wether logged in or not. Perhaps in the interest of fault isolation I will leave it logged on until 7PM.

I think you just found the problem for me. I had always run the sage tv service but when I reinstalled I think I forgot to do this. The service was not set to run. What user should I have it log in as?

If you will be doing any access over a network, I would create a special password protected user. Otherwise, if everything is local, Local System does just fine too.
