Q: Offline transcoding of HD material?

I see that version 6 has transcoding options for PSP/iPod/etc.... but I'm unable to view HD material on my MVP because 2.6GHz is too slow apparently.

Does anyone have something that can be used to transcode the HD MPEGs automatically to MPG format offline, so that when I go to watch it the next day, it doesn't have to be done on the fly?

I think the files it creates in HD all have the MPG extension, so I can't use something like DirMon that can do this automatically.

Thanks,
Lauren

I only record HD from my 2 HD tuners so I was able to add a rule (forced_video_storage_path_prefix) for both tuners that points their output to a different directory (actually different disks). If you're able to do this you'll be able to use DirMon2 to process your HD files.

Andy.

Some people have used Auto Compress, this import for the Default STV, or built into SageMC to do an automatic transcode of HD recordings.

I read the thread and this is exactly what I needed. Not only that, but I plan to use this on some of my favorites to also encode them to my iPod.

Thanks!

Check out ipodifier

One other app you can check out is the following:

http://www.ipodifier.com/

It was originally written to transcode files from SageTV to play on the video IPOD. It has a schedular and will automatically import files into ITunes.
