How to use HDHomeRun along with STB's
![]() ![]() ![]() I have two STB's from Cox Cable that I use via a PVR-500 (S-Video). I just bought an HDHomeRun to tune the HD broadcast signal provided by the cable company, via a splitter before going into the STB's. Everything seems to work via channel scanning using the SD software, etc. I followed the instructions on the Silicon Dust web site, about setting everything up. When I select the channel in the channel line up that matches the name of the channel in the HDHR setup, and change the physical channel to the indicated "x" number, it still tunes the STB instead of the HDHR...not only that, but the PVR-500 and the HDHR are trying to share the same channel setup, which is driving me crazy, as I just went through and selected all the channels that were valid, only to lose those after following the directions from SD's web site about disabling all channels. I'm sure someone has this working, is there a trick to it. I swear, I go from product to product, only to find that there is something wrong with everything I try...first it was glitching with the FusionHDTV PCI cards, then I got the FustionHDTV USB pods, only to find out that they get jacked up on a regular basis, and must have USB ports shuffled around until the turner works, now I'm on the 3rd fix, and here we go again...sorry about the rant... ![]() ![]() ![]()

Should I be using OTA, instead of Cable or Sat?

What's the encoder merit set to? It may be it's just preferring the STB tuner instead of the HDHR. I have my merits set to prefer the HDHR first, then the R5000-HD, then analog tuners.
thx mike

You are using a different EPG lineup for the HDHR?
YOu need to pick a different lineup for the HDHR so that you can remap/enable/disable channels for the HDHR without affecting the 500's channels.

Well, the problem is, that I'm not seeing duplicate channels. I see the channels 705 in the guide that is normally an HD channel on the STB, and remap the channel to say, 15, and then instead of tuning the HDHR to 15, it tunes the STB to 15.
I found another thread with a similar question, and they are using neighboring zip codes to setup different channel listings. My problem, is that Cox seems to have just one lineup for this area, and it's always listed as Tulsa. I don't understand why SageTV can't just let you have multiple channel listings that are different...it would make things a whole lot easier.

I guess a satellite provider might be a close match?

Yup, you just have to find a lineup that works for you. Luckily for me, I'm able to use a neighboring city's lineup, that has the same cable company with the same channels.
Basically, if you only need some specific channels, like the digital locals, you should be able to find an lineup fairly easily. Either Dish/DirecTV or maybe even an OTA lineup mapped to your QAM channels.

Well, DirecTV has a lineup, but the locals don't seem to be listed as HD, they are listed like KOKI, where as in the Cox lineup, they are listed both as KOKI and KOKIDT.
Does the guide name in SageTV and the guide name in the HDHR Channel Editor need to match?

What QAM channels are you getting besides the locals? TOns of good digital cable channels that you really want? If not, maybe try using an OTA lineup to just map the digital locals to the OTA locals. Quote:

Okay, thanks Jack. It's not looking good though, just tried a couple of them, and I'm not seeing the DT channels...we'll see though.

Now you see why people have been asking Sage for some way to use the same lineup on different tuners and enable/disable/remap channels per tuner, not per lineup.
I personally have 3 lineups that I have to use for one cable company, due to the 3 different ways that I can capture my recordings. edit: I'd try using an OTA lineup and see if you can get anything working that way. Otherwise, play with some different zipcodes for cities around the Tulsa area and see if any of them have a Cox lineup that you can use. edit2: edited after you already found a lineup.

Yeah, I didn't understand it either, until just now.
So, I found a lineup that will work, some obscure appartment complex or something. So, everything works now, except, when I actually tune a channel, I get sound, but no video...yet another problem to solve.

Seems like you have it now.
When I did cable STB + HDHR from QAM cable signal. I used the cable/digital cable lineup for the STB's. Then used the OTA lineup for local channels since the programing would be the same, and remapped the OTA numbers to what i wanted/and the physical numbers to what tuned my HD local channels from the cable. It was kind of a pain to get them all right. Later on I ended up getting a antenna for local HD channels because my cable was worst quality. |

Interesting, the quality coming from my cable appears to be pretty good, now I even get ABC, which I couldn't get from my antenna.
I wondered if I could use the OTA signals, but I didn't know if that would change how the tuner tried to tune the channels or not... I rebooted the HTPC, and that fixed the no video problem, so now I'm good to go, and hopefully my wife will be happier about the whole thing. I didn't realize it was going to turn into a 5 hour ordeal to get this installed, or I would have put it off until next week...
