New User Questions

Hey guys,

I'm rather new here. I'm looking into building an HTPC system for my new place when I move in around 3 months from now. I've got Sage installed and working fine on my machine. I also have SageMC installed and running as well. I just have a few simply questions about things.

I am a computer programmer so I could theoretically work on some of this stuff if it doesn't exist. Not sure if I'll put that much effort into it but I am able to make new stuff if I need it.

I have read about using DVD Profiler with SageMC to import my data for my DVDs. I have this working so far. I have a few questions about it though

1) I have to manually refresh the meta-data by using the 'DVD Profiler Refresh' option in the videos section. Will this happen automatically for me every hour or so (some amount of time, I don't particularly care about how much)? I do have the seeker/periodically_scan_library=true line in my .properties file.

2) Will the thumbnails refresh as well? If I do a manual refresh of the DVD Profiler data, the data is imported correctly but the thumbnails stay the video preview and don't change over to the new thumbnails that exist inside the folder. (I have checked that they are created). They do show up when I exit and go back into Sage.

3) I'm assuming there is no way to tell it to automatically get a 'best guess' from IMDB and use that? I could always change it if I notice one is wrong.

4) What would be the best way to organize multiple disc rips in order to get them recognized by Sage/DVD Profiler?
Example: I have a movie, SomeMovie, that I've ripped into two separate files (it was originally for a dvd player) named SomeMovie (Disc I).avi and SomeMovie (Disc II).avi. Is there a way to get those both recognized automatically as SomeMovie (I'm willing to do manual entry into DVD Profiler if I can keep it saved). I don't want to have to go in manually and update from IMDB for each of these every time I need to reinstall something.

5) As an extension to #4, is there a way to chain those types of files together (inside of sage, not physically) so that they would play back to back? I could manually merge them I guess but I'd rather not be doing this as most of my old rips are in this format.

My other main question is about Sage itself. What type of developer support is there? If there is some, where could I find information about this? I'd like to know that I'll have options to create things if I want to later. I'm mainly looking for any info on writing custom plugins as well as what the heck all the STV files are (for example, SageMC) and how they were written.

Thanks for the help
Shawn

The stickies in the Studio forum would be a good place to start.

1)When you use "Option" for your refresh there is a Meta Data Option to Refresh the DVD Profiler data automatically. You can enable it there.

2)As afr as I know that's the way it works. Or you can refresh you directories again manually or wait fo rit to happen.

3)Go into each individual DVD and right-click ot "Options" command and you wil get a dialog with a choice being an IMDB search.

4)I don't do multi discs so I'm no sure but search the forum. There was a discussion on it.

5)Go into each indivdual DVD and "Send to" the playlist. (Menu choice on left.)
