Network Encoder
I am currently running a setup using a second SageTV server as a network encoder. The server runs as a service and I launch it in Client mode when I watch TV. This setup has been generally stable over the last 6 months or so since I switched to Sage from BeyondTV. The reason I use the Network Encoder setup is because I have two DirecTV receivers and I want to leave them in their original location hooked up to their associated HDTVs. The primary server has a HD-PVR and Network encoder box has an AVerTV Combo PCIe (analog card).
Problem:
My current recordings have a tendency to have some pixilation in them. I was able to make it better by reducing the recording quality and it is tolerable at this point for the amount of times I record two things at once but I am wondering how it will work if I upgrade the analog capture device to an HD-PVR. The network is a wired Gigabit LAN so I doubt that is the issue. The card itself will work fine if I record with it with out the Network encoder setup.
My primary question here is how well will the HD-PVR work as a network Encoder? Is anyone doing this today?
Also: does anyone have any advice on how I could improve the existing setup and eliminate the current pixilation problem.
Comments from anyone using sage with network encoding would be welcome as well since there does not appear to be a lot of posts on the subject in the forums.
Note for Sage Support: I would like to state that I thought the documentation on this functionality was rather weak when I installed it.
