What Mpeg or H.264 editing software is out there for cutting commercials?
Hey everyone i'm just trying to figure out what mpeg editing software is out there, currently i'm using videoredo plus but am curious what other people use to cut commercials. And its time for me to start editing my H.264 encodes. So need software suggestions for this also

You should have searched the forum. Many of the people use VideoRedo Plus or TV Suite. Sage also havs a plugin that uses VideRedo to cut the commercials out while in the SageTV interface.

You might look at ProjectX, its complicated as hell, but free and does a good job. But IMHO, VRD really is the best by a long shot.

If you are looking for free ones, then thats a different story. I actually don't know of any good free ones.

Ditto, save your time, spend the money, get VideoRedo.

If you want to spend sometime... Womble and AVS Media are others that haven't been mentioned yet. There are "free" ones, but they are not user friendly and typically require a decent IT background to "get it."

Oh yeah, the TV Suite is just their latest version. Don't fret over the Plus vs. TV Suite issue.

Will Video Redo Plus do H.264 now? I thought that was just in the works not ready.

Steve I believe you're correct but the OP asked about MPEG rather than H.264?

And since they are working on h.264 editing for VideoRedo makes it an even better choice. (Once it's working.)

The thread says just MPEG, but the question above the first post includes H264. at this time, I am not using anything for H264. I am anxiously waiting for VideoReDo's ability. I think within the next 6 months, the program will offer support for it.

editing mpeg/ts files isn't a current feature, but it is something I'd like to add.

you can use mencoder with an edl file to remove commercials from the cmd line, which can be automated using dvrmstoolbox.

If you are only looking to cut mpg SD files for archiving to DVD then TMPGenc DVD author 3 is about the fastest as you can make your cuts on the time line, add chapter points and menus if you choose then process & burn.

The fastest when it come's to editing MPEG1/2 is still this way
1: Womble Multimedia MPEG-VCR
2: Womble Multimedia MPEG Video Wizard
3: VideoReDo

As for H264 there only one H264TS Cutter which is not very Frame-accurate by any means.

In the works VideoReDo and very good possable even Womble Multimedia
But I'm kind happing the Leadtek PxVC1100 will be 100% Frame-accurate editing for cut, copy, paste, and save.
Only problem I see with this device is it cost from what I under stand it a round $300/400 with included software which is kind of outdate.
It should have included a much newer package like
VideoStudio X2
DVD MovieFactory 6
WinDVD 9

Let see there also Nvidia Cuda & ATI Stream Technology

TMPGenc is the slowest and woste one and is not Frame-accurate.
