HD Homerun Setup
Vex --thanks for the feedback,
Does the Sage Media Server need any special setup to see the HDHR or does it see it as any other TV Tuner? Any words of wisdom for the setup here would be appreciated. |

Many thanks for this SageTV Newbie How-To!
Thanks to profit for starting this thread. I was scouring the SAGETV site looking for a SAGETV for newbies section. I have all of the same ?'s.
Mitch G, vexhold, MattHelm, Shadeblue, and Polypro answered all my questions and I didn't even have to post. |

The diagrams by vexhold and shadeblue.com are excellent. My only question is about software. What do you need to run on the server? SageTV Media Center?
Also, I guess I'm a little confused about the difference between Extender Mode and Stand-alone Mode for the HD200 when the HD PVR is involved. |

Stand-alone mode runs it's own interface that just lets you see and play back files from various locations (network, USB storage). You don't need any Sage software running on the network to use this. So with the HD-PVR in Sage you will see a list of shows made with all tuners and you can play back any of those files. In stand-alone mode you would see the file names of the h.264 files made by the HD-PVR in the recording directory and could play them back that way, just like opening them in a media player or on an MP3 device. The HD-PVR just generates data to the computer, you cannot control it from the HD-200 directly, you need the Sage Media Center software on the computer where the HDPVR is connected to be the go-between.
