Use FLAC for sound tracks?

Question for you experienced extender people. I'm interested in backing up my BluRay discs to a video/audio format that he HD200 can handle. My question is: Does anyone know if I take a DolbyTruHD/LPCM/DTS-MA soundtrack from a Bluray and convert it to lossless FLAC (5.1), will the HD200 be able to playthat back along with the 1080p signal?

Thanks.

I'm currently still using my HTPC to playback BluRay backups, but would love to get rid of the HTPC altogether.

Unfortunately, I'm not willing to back down to regular DD or DTS, so realize I do know that is a solution, just not one I'm willing to go with.

I would have thought lots of people used FLAC for soundtracks.

Has anyone tried out the popcorn hour A-110? It looks like it has the capability of bitstreaming DTS-MA and TruHD. I really don't want to have to spend another $200 to get this working, but I guess that is still cheaper than a good BluRay player....

Not really, I've heard rumours of the Panasonic DMP-BD35K for under $200.

I haven't heard if the HD200 will play multichannel FLAC in video container. Easiest way to find out is to try...

I just threw that in there so somebody would respond. Even a good BluRay player can't play BLuRay rips .

I was hoping maybe somone else had done the legwork....so I guess I will have to figure it all out (not that it should be too complicated.

I spent the evening converting a telephone jack in the family room to a second cat5e port. It took longer than expected, but the hard work is done and I should be able to do some FLAC conversions tomorow after work. Oh, this was only possible because the telephone jack utilized the second of a pair of cat5e wire in the structured cable run to each room. Kind of a waste to use cat5e as a phone line, but I initially wanted phone/internet/cable/satellite in each room with a media jack. I did all the wiring/planning work with the help of my father (did most of the wiring - I did the planning and port hookup) Thanks dad!

well, no luck on the FLAC route. I did a little sample and got the same result....video with no audio.

For now, I guess I am going to have to make sure I grab the AC3 soundtrack and put it first followed by the HD audio track so that I can play it back when the time comes.

Oh well....

Now that we can choose audio tracks with the latest beta, I'm happy about this for the same reasons. You may also want to throw in the subtitle track in case we get that support. 'tis better than re-ripping in the future.

If you are using x264, make sure you choose the options carefully for your encodes. 720p is pretty forgiving. 1080p needs specific parameters.

I'm sure I don't have to tell you that even though the HD200 is a great little device, it doesn't replace a true Blu-Ray player. Besides the advanced audio support, you get 24p video as well, something the HD200 does not do.

How do you make it do that?

Stick this in the extender's properties file
Code:
extender_resolution_extra_modes=1920x1080p@24|standard\=HDMI_1080p24

Thanks stanger....for the 24p thing.

I've done no reauthoring of any video. It's straight from a Blu Ray. It plays back no problem when I put in a real AC3 track. I make the AC3 track the first one so it tries that one first.

I put that in and tried it out. I see that my 24p options are listed in the detailed setup now, but I leave it on 1080p@60 for the menus. I played some 24p videos and it seems to work fine, but I can't tell if they are in 24p mode or not. My TV only shows 720p or 1080p, not the frame rate. Are there any videos or samples one can download to better show off 24p?

Interestingly enough, according to the FAQ in this forum, I entered my custom resolutions like this:
Code:
extender_resolution_extra_modes=1280x720p@24|standard=720p24;1920x1080p@24|standard=1080p24

After I started Sage back up, they changed to include that backslash
Code:
extender_resolution_extra_modes=1280x720p@24|standard\=720p24;1920x1080p@24|standard\=1080p24

I don't think Sage will automatically switch to 24Hz, I know it won't if you don't have native output switching enabled.

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread, but I can't get it to work. I do have native switching on - use it all the time.

The video in question is 720p@24. I'm not sure it's supported (like 1080p@24)

I tried both

1280x720p@24|standard\=720p24
and
1280x720p@24|standard\=HDMI_720p24

Neither worked.

I'm pretty sure you'll have to toggle to it with the video out option.
