Why don't these files play?

One of my tuners is a STB via firewire.

Some (25%; maybe less) of the recordings aren't playable on the server. They play fine on my MVP or HD extender, but won't play on placeshifter (or even via VLC on the server).

The www server reports this information, for example:

I use the extenders for 99.99% of all viewing, but it makes troubleshooting more difficult if I can't watch it on the server.

Again, many recordings ARE viewable with placeshifter/VLC, but not all. Is there anything that's specific to the stream that might affect playback? Not sure if it's a channel-specific thing...I just haven't kept that close track of which play and which don't.


Any thoughts?
