Java 6u13 available

That was awful quick turnaround from 6u12 which usually means a serious bug...

Anyway for those fresh from the wounds of updating to 6u12, make sure to disable/stop SageTV service and SageTV before attempting to upgrade.

And if you are using Comskip Monitor, best to stop that too.

Although Sun say they've fixed the installer bug that caused all the problems with update 12.

I'm actually hoping that it means that 14 will be out reasonably soon. Granted its nothing I keep track of but they seem to have been working on Java's speed and pushing updates on the regular as of late.

Okay need some help..... For some reason Java 6u12 tried installing on my server on Sunday which of course completely hosed my system. No big deal. I just removed all java versions and then installed 6u13 and everything is running great. Problem is, I always turn off auto updates. So how the #$#%@ did it try installing 6u12? Anyway, with that said since I completely trashed java and reinstalled this means that the auto updates are most likely turned on. And for the life of me I can't remember/figure out how to get into the Java applet to tell it not to auto update (I am NOT going thru this again).

Control Panel => Java => [Update] Tab => Uncheck "[ ] Check for Updates Automatically" => Push "Never Check" button on Warning

Should be enough.

I'm admittedly completely uneducated about these things, but I have noticed that when a new version of java is installed, the old versions still appear on my hard drive (rather than being overwritten). They take up a decent amount of space, too. Is it okay to just delete them (only the older ones - I would, of course, keep the last version, in case I had to roll back or something)?

The release I have on my Sage server is way behind (turned off updates a while ago) but Sage still works fine... does this new release appear bug-free, such that I should update?

It's best to uninstall the old version before installing the new.

Jeeezzz...I never realized it was available via the control panel. I always just set it to not update when the icon pops up in the corner (when it finds new versions), but I wasn't waiting this time.

Thanks!

Another nice way of dealing with Java upgrades and getting rid of older version is to use JavaRa utility found here:
