Help with possible unstable system

My details are:
Sage TV V: 6.5.9.204 (recently upgraded)
Java 1.6.0_02

HD100 (Firmware recently updated)

I'm having problems with the system locking up, either on the HD side or the main server side. By locking up I mean the HD will no longer respond and I have to hard power cycle it to get it to talk to the server. ON the server side, similar problem, it will show the what my wife has called the circle of death, the sage spinning circle, but never recover, or if it does it takes over 10 minutes.

Before I drastically start re-installing, I wanted to ask for help with where to start. Thanks!

It could be many things, but before I would get too crazy, just uninstalling and reinstalling java.

Thanks. I unistalled 1.5 and reinstalled the current 1.6, the reboot issue seems to have gone, at least I haven't had to hard power cycle in 2 days. Before it was multiple times a day.

What I am still observing, (or now more than ever) is a wierd pausing or stutter affect on several ripped DVDs. It starts pausing, slowly at fisrt, then rapidly then goes to slow motion with no sound, then doesn't move. A couple of things will get it out of that mode, temporarily, soft power cycle, rewind, or restart DVD. If I rewind, even a 10s rewind, goes back 4-5 minutes, like it didn't know where it was. Power cycle and restart DVD are just a pain too, but only cause you have to find where you are on the movie. Nothing prevents it from happinging again 5-10 minutes later. This is duplicated on multiple DVD's, and is primarily observed on the HD100, but I haven't messed much with it on the server side.

ideas?

Could be the way you ripped your DVD's. What did you use? Also what version of the firmware are you running on the HD100?

I just realized I originally placed this in the wrong forum, Not sure if I need to , or how to move it to the Media Extender forum. . .

But to answer your questions I use DVDFab for rips and my firmware is 20080204-0, recently updated. I do not recall seeing these issues prior to the upgrade. at least not the pausing/rewind issue.

You should really upgrade your firmware then. There is an official release from August of 2008 and there is even a beta firmware (which I run and find very stable). I would try to see if those fix your problems. Your firmware is over a year old and many advancements have been made!

WIll do, that is strange though, unless the firmware is a stepped upgrade. I upgraded that firmware around 1 month ago. It was the first upgrade I did in a long time, since it was running smothly before. . .

Do the firmware's require stepped upgrade, or did the upgrade button just fail?

I'll upgrade shortly, and update from there.
