What remote control do I use for SageTV?

I am trying to get my SageTV working with any IR remote control. I have USB-UIRT and it works fine. I have Girder and can get IR events into it from the remove/USBUIRT. How do I pass these onto SageTV? Is there an easier setup that I should be using? What remote are other people using and how did you get that set-up?

THanks

Use the USB-UIRT. Make sure you have the drivers loaded. Go into Detailed Settings-Commands and tell Sage yo are using the USB-UIRT. Now whatever remote you have chosen to use (MCE, Harmony, some old VCR remote) you need to learn the buttons you want to use with the commands in Sage that you want them to do. Consult the manual for step by step instructions.

USB UIRT remote

Can you be more specific on what drivers you are talking about? I went to the settings section you refer to and it says it cannot connect to the device, and that I need to plug it in...well it is. Help!
I know how to learn commands in Girder but how are they passed onto Sagetv?

If you are running Windows and you plug in the USB-UIRT I believe it will start the New Hardware wizard and ask for the drivers. Go to the USB-UIRT site and you will find drivers for whatever version of Windows you are running. If you have drivers installed it should show up fine in Windows Device Manager. If it does, make sure you're NOT running Girder. That may be part of the issue. (Unless you also want to use Girder with the USB-UIRT to control Sage.) The point is it is easier to let SageTV natively control the USB-UIRT and your remote. Adding Girder just adds another level of complexity but additional functionality. (That you may not need.)

USB UIRT

I did install the correct drivers and I am able to get the IR to send commands into Girder. The UIRT does show up in the device manager so I am sure all is well with the actual hardware install.

I stopped everything - services and restarted them and started SageTV. Went to tell it in Advance Setup to set the control to USB-UIRT and still - no device detected.

THoughts?

I would recommend switching to EventGhost. I used Girder for years and EventGhost is just better and easier to use. I setup Sage with No remote and emulate keyboard commands in EventGhost. In EventGhost you just pick up whatever remote you want and push a button and you will see it show up in the log. From there you just drag it over to the function you want it to activate. There are plenty of templates around for Sage and I bleve one comes with the basic install.

I use universal remotes for this and generally emulate the MCE remote. That will give you access to a lot of DVR like commands easily.

Thanks....I got USB UIRT working without Girder. Sage recognized the port finally after reinstalling sage AFTER I installed the USB-UIRT drivers.

SWKerr,

I'm in a similar situation to beach40. I just got the USB-UIRT so I can run ShadeBlue's STBKeepalive program.

I have been using the Hauppauge remote , but I would like to emulate something else since I have a 4-input remote controlled switch that sometimes mis-fires when I use the Hauppauge remote.

I'm thinking about using the MCE remote as the command set with the USB-UIRT, but I don't actually own an MCE remote. Is there any place I can get an "Upgrade" file that describes the MCE buttons so I can program it into a universal remote using the JP1 tools (RemoteMaster and IR.EXE)?

Girder can hand off commands to sage just fine, using SendMessage. I believe there are a couple .GML files for sage on the promixis web site.
