File Size

Does anyone have any "ballpark" estimates as the to the file size Placeshifter sends to a remote client?

I might use my phone aircard, but don't want to go over any limits I might have.

It seemd like my Slingbox sent a much smaller file than the actual filesize.
Thanks

You can choose whatever bitrate you like on the Streaming tab of the Placeshifter client's Settings dialog. If you leave it set to dynamic streaming (the default), it will choose a bitrate based on available bandwidth. So there really isn't an answer to your question as posed; how much data it sends depends on how you have it configured and the speed of your connection.

The reality is, SageTV will send a much smaller amount of data, as compared to your original recording. Even if your aircard gets an average of a 700k stream for that hour you are watching the show, it comes out to about 350MegaBytes, which is not huge and probably about a tenth the size of your recording. Most air based ineternet services are limited to 5Gigabytes of data a month.

The limiting factor is likely to be the upload speed that you get with your ISP. For example many cable internet services give you 5Mbps download speed but only around 700kbps upload speed. That 700 kbps is your bottleneck in this instance and as Mike mentions above will use about 3.15 MB/hour (700*3600(secs per hour)/8(bits/byte)/1000(kilobits/Megabit))
