MVP vs HD200 user experience

I been running with two MVPs for a couple of years now.

I've been sticking with them while convincing myself SageTV might eventually might be able to do everything I want it to do.

Now I'm thinking of biting the bullet and buying an HD200 or two.

Is my wife going is get an experience that free of all the problems we have had with MVPs - overheating, failure to boot, slowness, the double vision problem, strage artefacts in the video cured by rebooting etc etc.

Or does the HD200 also have problems making "turn on and watch" expectation wives get from using a regular TV still a dream.

Be grateful if people could set some expectations for me before I spash the cash.

Michael

I used to run 3 MVP's but now have 1 MVP, 1 HD100 and an HD200.

They're much better than the MVP's, a lot more reliable and you don't get any of the old issues you had with the double vision. I think you'll be amazed at the picture quality.

I think that once you get 1 you'll want to get another!

I have two MVPs and one HD-200. The HD-200 is much more relaible than the MVPs at staying connected. The MVPs are a pain, where they periodically have to be power cycled, sometimes leaving them unplugged for awhile to get them to work again. The HD-200s do not have that annoying problem. The sound quality of the HD-200 is far superior to the MVP. The HD-200 will work with SD or HD TVs. If you don't have a HD TV now, you'll be ready with the HD-200. I plan to buy another HD-200 soon. The old MVP units can still be used on the seldomly used TVs around the house, although it might be worth it to just throw them away and replace them with HD-200s to elminate the MVP annoyances.

I have 2 HD200's, 2 HD100's (had another HD100, but gave it to my parents), and 3-4 MediaMVP's. My MVP's are regulated to the guest room, to my secondary tv in my office (my main tv has an HD100) and a couple of other seldom used tv's (all SD televisions). They just can not compare to the HD100 or HD200. Image quality has improved (even for SD television), the ability to play HD (in HD and not HD transcoded to SD), and h.264 (coming from my HDPVR) is just amazing. I also have ripped 1 Blu-Ray movie and have played that back with my HD200 which was cool (but I can't justify the 35GB of space blu-ray discs take up). The cool thing is that the HD200 doesn't necessarily make you stay with Sage as it can also be used as a Network Media Player should you ever decided to go the route of another piece of software (sure you won't have the gui, but at least you can use it for playing back the other recordings).

The HD200 is so much better that I refused to have an MVP any more.

I second that. I have 2 MVPs sitting in a box for the past 2 years and I only brought one out once when I had to fix the HD100 power supply.

My MVP is a PITA! My HD200 is awesome. The GUI speed is fantastic too, as well as just general FWD and REW (except ripped DVD’s). Overall, the HD200 is way better.
