DTS dropouts from mkv files

I too have drop outs on MkV DTS videos, on both yamaha and pioneer amps

The sound clicks goes silent clicks again then plays, it's as though the amp looses connection the the HD theatre for a split second, it happens on all DTS MKV files

They are aware of the problem, but if you can submit another MKV file for testing, it will possibly elevate the importance (?)

Any word on this? As things currently stand, the HD200 will *not* play 1080p .mkvs with DTS sound in them without random audio dropouts. It is kind of a major deal and has been this way for at least 4 months. Is this a limitation of the chip in the HD200, or will there be a fix for this I wonder? If not, should probably make a footnote on the HD200 that it is not quite able to play all 1080p formats that are widely used.

They are aware of the problem and are working on a fix. It is not solely a problem with 1080p files - 720p (or any) MKV files are affected. It has been a bug for almost a year through various firmwares, but the HD200 *can* work correctly with DTS as some of the initial firmwares for the device did work fine. However, they are wholly incompatible with the latest Sage.

Any updates on this?

I am experiencing dropouts when just playing straight BDMV folder rips (no mkvs.)

It makes the HD200 useless for movie playback as 99% of the movies we watch have DTSHDMA.

I am experiencing the DTS audio dropouts with .mkv files as well.

Do we know for sure that Sage is actually working on this as it has already been months...?

Thx.

I imagine they are spending more time on Sage 7 these days, but they are aware of the problem. Open a ticket. Hopefully it will help elevate the status of the bug.

Glad I found this thread. I have been having this dropout problem since getting my hd200 last year with 5.1 shows from my HDPVR. I thought it was a directv problem or HDPVR drivers. Hopefully this will be fixed.

I grew tired of this issue and just converted all of my DTS sound tracks to AC3. I don't have a super duper sound system, so it has not made a difference in my viewing experience.

Evil_Attorney (redundant?): Most of us who posted in this thread were posting ablout DTS tracks, not AC3 tracks. OP corrected his intention for the thread but not until after it had taken off. IIRC Sage is looking at the DTS dropout issue.

Your HD PVR records audio in AC3 and should not be suffering from the DTS issue.

Have you tried playing the recordings through other video playback software?

Whoops. Looks like I didn't read closely enough. I don't think my droupouts are in the recordings themselves. I believe that if I rewind and replay a dropout area it will play fine. The actual loss of sound is probably from my receiver as it attempts to figure out what encoding the audio has. I am running my hd200 to my receiver via HDMI. Could my server be causing this somehow?

My Onkyo does it every time there is one second or more of silence in the HDMI audio stream - it then adds two or more seconds of silence while trying to figure out the audio stream's format again.

Yes, I have an Onkyo HT RC160 which does the same thing. It does that at the beginning of each song when music is played, which is annoying. But my problem happens during dialog and only on 5.1 recordings. Maybe it is a flakey hdmi cable?

I worked with Sage and I believe the beta firmware today (7/12/2010) fixes it. Try it out.

The beta firmware corrected the issue on most of my MKVs that experience the dropout problem. However, I have one MKV where it is still an issue. I have opened a support ticket with sage.

You might want to remux that single file with MKVmerge again. It's my understanding that Sage had to relax the standard a lot to get my MKV samples to work. Something about broken DTS muxing.

Valnar -
What is the best way to remux? Just MKVMerge file.mkv -o remux.mkv?

Download and install MKVToolnix, would be the easiest.

I submitted the sample to Sage support and got the following reply:

"One of the developers said the issue is caused because the file contains
DTS-HD which we don't support in mkv files yet."
