Can I have my HD-200 connect to both Sage 6 & 7

I own two licenses for SageTV server and I want to upgrade my backup SageTV PC immediately to V7. I also own five HD-200 extenders. Assuming that I update the firmware on my extenders can I connect to either server - one running V6.6.2 (or whatever the last V6 was) and one running V7?

yes you can... boot into standalone navigate to sagetv servers and pick the one you want to connect to

EDIT: i have 2 servers as well... one i can develop on and screw up without worrying about bringing the "production" server to a screeching halt. My test server is in a vm on my desktop so i dont have 2 computers...

I wanted to buy a SageTV client license but when I bought one of my HD-200 extenders I noticed that the bundle of an HD-200 and the full license was only something like $15 more than an HD-200 plus a SageTV client license. Since the server version includes the client version I figured it was worth spending the incremental $15.

Now I also use this as a backup in case I have problems with my main setup. So I now kind of have a production and a backup. The "backup" doesn't have any tuners right now but I do have a spare PVR-150 that I can throw in and use with analog cable. Even without a tuner I can play with the new UI and playing back files from my video collection and I should be able to map the SageTV recording folder from my production server to the Video Library of my backup server which will soon be running V7.

Note that this backup server is also my desktop PC. My production server is running WHS but I don't know that I want to continue using WHS as I am having problems and it is a pain in the butt to rebuild a WHS system. So I might buy new hardware and use that as my main Sage server and continue to have a WHS box. I would put all important files like videos, photos, music on both PCs to improve my redundancy rather than using the WHS duplication feature. I still want to have WHS to backup my PCs and for its web server features, etc.

I have this question too - I want to trail v7 on my 'dev' machine before I roll it out onto 'prod' machine. My question is, do I need to upgrade the HD200 to beta code to connect it to a v7 server ? (Its running the last RC whatever that was)

Thanks

without the latest beta hd200 firmware it will be really really slow (latest = something later then the 20100208 firmware.. however there is no reason not to upgrade to the 20100518 1 firmware)

Just checked and I thought I was on the latest RC but I'm not I'm on 20090702 (Its offering to upgrade me to 20090903)

Sage 7 server on my dev box doesn't even show as something I can connect to. So I guess I may have to upgrade the HD200 firmware.

Its been rock solid, stability wise which is why I'm taking small steps. Pointing back to the old server is easy, downgrading HD200 firmware isn't

type in "beta" with your remote on the firmware update page to make sure you get the 20100518 1 firmware...

Thanks, I know how to upgrade to beta firmware I'm just a bit reluctant as the firmware I'm on seems very stable (I was burnt about a year ago when I upgraded to a beta HD200 release that broke fast foward on videos)

I will probably try it, worst case is I roll back to 20090903

Wasn't there a version of SageTV or mode you can run it where it allows developers to run with virtual null tuners or something like that? Remember reading something about it, but can't remember exactly what it was.

I think you're looking for this sticky in the Studio forum...

(yes that is how my dev server is setup)

I have a v6 and v7 servers running. I upgraded my HD200 to the latest beta firmware, and it can still connect to the v6 server but when I connect it to the v7 server the light on the front goes out and that's it. It won't do anything after that until I power cycle it (unplug it.) Anyone else seeing this?

I was able to get the hd200 to attach when I ran the server as a service instead of running it from the desktop.
