Linux Server Questions

I have a few general questions related to creating a Linux encoding-only server, to be used as the back-end to several Windows clients. I know a good deal of information has been posted elsewhere, but since the Linux FAQ has not been updated in almost four years I'd like to be assured I'm getting the most up-to-date info.
  1. Has anyone compiled a Guide for setting up a Linux-based encoding system, be it on this site or a blog somewhere?
  2. Will a Linux-based server allow Windows clients to play back ripped DVDs?
  3. Is there a Linux-equivalent version of the "EXE Multi-Tuner Plugin" ?
  4. Is there any way I could use an existing (Windows) wiz.bin file in a Linux system?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated ...

1. Setup is really no different than setting up a Windows server. The installation is slightly different but that's about it.

2. Yes if you are using SageClients. No if you are using a PlaceShifter as a client.

3. No idea on this one.

4. Yes, the wiz.bin is interchangeable.

These are both particularly encouraging, though I must say that #4 is probably the single item that would make this transition as seamless as possible. Thanks a lot!

Tom,

You sure about #2? I think the caveat is that it needs to be Vista or higher. XP could not mimic the folder layout needed.

You have better Linux skills than I do so I trust your answer more than mine

This would be critical for me, since my clients are all XP ...

I haven't had a PC client in a long time, but here's my post on it: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...78&postcount=5

It may have changed since then, but I doubt it.
