Network hd300 to server without switch

I would like to connect my hd300 directly to the server without using a switch.

I'm doing this since I'm seeing some movies dropping the dts master hd track at times.

Sage support has been no help.

Now my server has 4 network cards in it, so I guess I will have to use a cross over cable to make this happen.

I tried this But had trouble setting the server entry in the hd300.

Any ideas would be great.

If you use a crossover cable you would need to configure a static IP for the HD300. It will still need an IP address. It should be on the same subnet as the card you are plugging into.

I did do the static ip on the same subnet, but when I tried to connect to the server after adding it's properties in I would just get a flicker on the screen then a blank screen. It never connects.

For the sage server properties should I use the located id or the server ip.

Have you done any troubleshooting on your system and wiring by taking your server and in wall wiring out of the mix? Load a trial of Sage on your laptop and do the crossover cable directly to it. I don't know much about your situation but it sounds peculiar that you need 4 nics...

I did run a long LAN cable from the hd300 to the switch that the server is plugged into.

I had the multiple nics to do teaming for load balancing.

You would also need to make sure that you are plugging it into the network card that Sage thinks is the primary network card. Not sure what you need 4 NICs in your Sage server for and it just complicates using a simple app like Sage. To each his own. I don't have a setup like this so you could just plug it in each NIC and boot up the HD300. And now that I see you had it for teaming and load balancing that simple fact could have been causing some of your dropouts. You may want to pull out the 3 cards and then test with a single card and your switch or crossover. You may be pleasantly surprised.
