What would you buy if you could?

Since the Google purchase announcement there have been many people posting in the forums about wanting (or needing) to buy new client/server licenses or HD300's.

Please pick the option(s) that are closest to what you would like to purchase if you could.

Disclaimer - Just to make sure that I don't mislead anyone, this is for information purposes only. I'm not trying to put pressure on the Sagetv crew, just curious of the real numbers.

Cheers,

Jeremy

I selected the server license because I wanted to see if a linux setup would work for me. If it worked well I would replace at least 3 of my 4 windows servers with the linux version. Also was planning to replace my 3 HD200s with HD300s. All of this within the next 18 months.

A few more options were added to the poll and my spelling was fixed up. Thanks Opus4.

Remember you can select more that one item when voting.

I had a server license, 4 client licenses and a HD300 when things shut down, so I guess I am one of the lucky ones. It would have been nice to add another HD300.

I started with a server and 3 clients. Over time I replaced the 3 clients with HD200's and then replaced those with HD300's. So, if my 300's die, I can go back to 200's and if those die I can go back to clients. I would like another HD300 though.

Ditto.

I do have two unused client licenses, but I'm planning to use them soon, likely with a couple of Zotacs or Acer AspireRevos. I've got one HD-300 and would like a couple more as well.

I picked two HD-300s, but I should have added a server license, specifically of the Linux variety.

I put two HD300s. I would also like a couple of the programmable remotes for my HD200s. That's one option that is missing.

The Linux server requires the SageTV activation server. If Google simply turns off the activation server, the Linux licenses cannot be activated again, which would be a problem if you ever had to rebuild your Linux server, unless you have an image that would work.

I bought a the Linux version less than a year ago. I tried it and was able to get it working. It does not have all of the features that Windows has and is a royal pain to get working. Thanks to the forum, I was able to get the Linux version working. But the Windows version is better for ease of use and a full feature set. I haven't used the Linux version in quite awhile now. I should have spent the money on 3 client licenses.

Anyone have a rough estimate of how many HD300's SageTV might have kept in stock at any particular time?

I know that I am simplifying things, but would it be that difficult for Google to open the SageTV store to sell off the remaining stock of HD300's?

Speaking hypothetically, since we may never be able to purchase a Linux license, but what features are missing? I was of the impression that the actually app was just Java, an effectively transparent to the platform ...

Only the front end UI is written in Java. The backend is written in C++.

It was missing the ability to work with Playon, therefore, with Netflix streaming. I have an image of the system so it should work even without the application server. I also have duplicate hardware.

As I recall, the Linux SageTV server does not function without the key, and the server calls home to verify the key. I don't know if the Linux version periodically calls home.

Oh, okay. I don't use any plug-ins, so I guess my experience would be comparable on either platform ...

I think that was corrected. I think there were changes made by Evilpenguin or another build for Playon to work on the Linux platform.

Maybe the plug-in would work, but the Playon software itself looks like it is still only for Windows according to Playon's web site.
