HDHomerun died?

Hey guys,
Has anyone ever had one that died? This morning when I tried to tune to NBC all I'm getting is no signal. If I disable those channels on the HDHomerun and just have them enabled on the Colossus hooked to the STB they work. I tried using the HDHomerun setup to preview the channel on VLC and again nothing plays. I also checked to see if the callsign changed, but it doesn't look like it has.
Anyone have any advice on what to do? Thanks!

Is that a possibility even if the lights are still on?

I wanted to double check the lights. The power light and network lights are on and solid. The tuner lights are not on, but I guess they are not supposed to be until the tuner is in use.
When I run the setup program, both tuners are found. Big Poppa, I wish and maybe hope that's the solution, but I'm thinking that's not it.

Absolutely. My signal strength started to get worse and worse. New power supply totally solved the problem. All the lights were fine, just crappy signal. FWIW this was a Silicondust replacement supply. The first one died a long time ago. 5V, at least 2A, center hot on the connector for a replacement.

Well it's worth a try. Do you think Radio Shack would have it?.

Mine had the same symptoms. Changed the power supply and it worked fine.

I had the power supply thing happen twice, and silicondust replaced them with no problem (even after a few years). But it happened again and I noticed that I had an old spare supply from a router that was the right specs. I tried it and it worked fine, fixed the problem. So rather than waiting and trying to bug silicondust again, I found an inexpensive power supply with the right specs online somewhere (Amazon I think?), and since they were so cheap, I ordered four more (I have two HDHRs). So now I have a pile of backup power supplies sitting next to the units, ready to be switched out if needed.

Downside of cheap Chinese electronics = they break sooner.
Upside of cheap Chinese electronics = inexpensive enough to keep a supply in stock at your house.

WOW, I can't wait to try this and see if it works. Problem is, I can't wait 5 days for one to get shipped. I will order some for the future, but do you guys think I could find one locally eg..Radio Shack?

Check your closet. You might find an old 2A@5V supply for a wireless router you no longer use, for example. That's what I did when my HD-PVR supply died.

And if you have one that you're using, you might be able to try it and at least verify that the supply is the problem.

It's funny, I just did that and looked thru my box of power supplies. I don't ever throw them away just for this occasion.

The not so funny part is I have everything but. I have a 3.5, 4.5, 6, lots of 12v. No 5v.

The closest thing I have is a 5v 2.2A, but the adapter is wrong. What did zoundz mean by "center hot on the connector for a replacement"

Yes Radioshack should have it, although you will be paying through your a$$ (20.95 + taxes) for it.

I know that's the crappy part, but I have to get it quick. Lots of things recording tonight. I'll for sure go internet shopping after this.

THANKS A TON for everyone's help. I will update later.

If you're reasonably handy, you can use the 5v 2.2A one, but you'll have to cut the end off the existing power supply and splice it on to the replacement.

When he said "center hot" he means that the center should be 5V and the outside should be the 0V.

pick up a multi-meter while you're at radio shack. If you don't wire it up center-hot, you'll be buying more than just a power supply.

FYI, as I've purchased these from RS for other reasons, bring your HDHR with you so you can get the right connector. But, they come separately and unwired, so you'll have to buy a connector and a power supply. At which point you'll need the multi-meter to determine which wire to connect to what.

I once tried to cut off an existing connector to wire to a different PS, but the actual wire was something like 1024 gauge, I swear it was barely 2-3 thin strands of wire. I couldn't physically strip the jacket without cutting the wire.

IVB - It's funny you said that. I went to Radio Shack with just the cord. I bought the ends I thought might be it. No good. I took the HDHR back with me, found the end on the samples, but they don't have the end in stock. Great. I usually would consider soldering the end on another cord, but now you have me worried. I feel like I'm on a wild goose chase, I just hope it works like everyone says. I can't wait to say I'm sorry for doubting. :0) I'll have to try again tomorrow while I get one or two (or three) ordered. I just need something in the meantime. I'll be dammed if I'm going to pay $50 for a power cord at Radio Shack. That will be going back.

Does anyone remember where you bought your power supply? I see about 200 on Amazon, but getting the right specs with the right tip is going to be a challenge. I'm so frustrated right now

My HD-PVR PS died a few days ago. I just spliced the cord into a molex connector (Red=5V, Black-Gnd). Then I cracked my PC open and plugged it into a molex end of the PC PS. Now my HD-PVR is up and running.

I not sure there is a down side to leaving it this way. If I think of one I'll just order a wall wart. But at least I know that the problem was the old wall wart.

I was going to suggest the same, if it is located near the PC. About the only thing I would add would be a 3A inline fuse on the 5V line. The power from the PC will be much cleaner than the power-brick, and may actually lead to better reception.
