HD100 MKV Playback

I've discovered an odd problem with my HD100. We have issues with our Handbrake converted DVD's. They will play and then get to an area of high detail or high action and then freeze. I assumed it had to do with the bit rate of the video so I've been playing with the H.264 profile and levels to try and figure it out.

Well, it apparently had nothing to do with that. When I remux the video into an m2ts container the very same videos play fine. Very odd. I'm not really sure what to do other than remux all our videos.

Just curious if anyone else has experienced this issue?

BTW, my videos are converted using 2-pass at 2500kbps, High Profile at Level 4.0. Not that high@4.0 matters for SD video but at least I know it can't exceed the HD100's capabilities.

Weird. Handbrake must create malformed MKV files. I remux the files with mkvmerge and the seem to play perfectly.

What version of Handbrake were you using. All my DVDs are Handbrake made, and back when I used my HD100 (never fixed those bad caps) they worked fine.

Using the latest non nightly, 0.9.9. I'm encoding now with the latest nightly. Will test it this evening after work.

If I remember correctly, the mkv toolkit (?) has a "checker" program. You might try running that on one of the older handbrake files.

BTW, I know the current Handbrake works OK with the HD200. (I just made one last weekend.)

Yea, all the same files work fine on our HD200. It's just the HD100 that gives uis issues. I believe there's some quirk with the MKV format that Handbrake spits out that The HD100 takes issue with and ends freezing playback. When it happens the playback clock is still running so if you don't catch it right away it will just merrily keep "playing" in the background until you finally stop it or end up rebooting the dang thing.
