How many HD media extenders you in for?

I was just curious just how many HD media extenders folks are going to buy when they come out so that maybe the Sage guys could get a good guess as well .... I am personally going to try and purchase 2 as soon as they drop...

If they're $5 each, I'm in for 20. If they're $500 each, maybe not.

After a few good end users reviews and depending on price, I plan on buying one right away. And then TWO more if I'm personally happy with it and the price is sub-$200.

Edit: Sub-$200 price includes software license fees .........if any

I need two right away.
I'd like 5 and voted 5, but in order to replace all my standard MVPs, I'd need to test the first 2. If DVD Playback was improved (although to be honest, I haven't really messed with that much since sage 5.x) and the boxes were pretty spiffy, I'd get the other 3 hopefully relatively quickly.

Media room & family room first. Bedrooms can wait till I've done more testing.

Edit - I've got 4 standard MVPs now.

Given the likely release window it will depend on how many my future children and grandchildren want.

I've got 2 HDTVs, so I'm in for up to 2, depending on how well they work.

I'm in for one the day they are released. I'm very confident if there are any bugs
they will be worked out with firmware updates. Has I add HD Tv's I will add HD extenders automatically, depending on there price. I've been running Sage since 2.1 and for all the griping my wife did at the start she loves the sage recording part. Trying to get her to time shift is anther story, but baby steps. I'm still trying to get her to realize how much better the picture is in HD.

I'm in for one, for our bedroom, which is why I bought an HD monitor, instead of a standard TV for use with the MVP. It's not full 1080, but should be really sharp for bedroom use.

My guess, is that I'm either going to have to upgrade my WiFi-G to one of those faster ones, 125mbps, or drop a 1G Ethernet drop down to that room. It would probably be easy enough to make the 1G drop, so I'll probably opt for that...

I'm in for one.

Then I can move the MVP from our bedroom to our 3yr old's room. Then he can watch his shows in there in the evening and we can finally reclaim our livingroom TV.

(a guy can dream, can't he?)

I can absolutely relate... I've got a 4 and 2 year old and I'm tired of watching Dora and Diego in the living room when I know a redsox game is on...

Can you turn an extender on and off like a tv with a remote? I am patiently awaiting the HD extenders, and would like one in the bedroom and one in the living room, but was curious if you can actually turn them off and on like a tv or like a vcr to save power?

Thanks
Mo

as of now the poll indicates a demand for over 150 units. that's pushing $30k gross revenues for the initial offering. not too shabby.

na,na,na. Consider a gross profit margin of 50% (if they are lucky) and you need to sell a boat load of these to make any real money.

true, but the poll has been running how long? less than a week? and how many members haven't chimed in and how many non-members will grab one? looks like a good deal all around when you consider the compatible HD recorders on the market. HDHR or 1600 + SageTV + HD-MVP = one sweet package. and storage is starting to get cheap enough to actually archive HD w/o compressing. I'm jazzed about the whole deal. hope the hardware hits the ground running (i.e. no show-stopping bugs) when it's rolled out.

Hi,

It will be interesting to see whether this goes into public beta or goes strait to a release version after private beta.

In spite of the risk I bet there are plenty of folks who would pony up the money for a beta product. Sage's track record would make the risk pretty small.

Trying to be as patient as possible ......

Jesse

I'm in for one as soon as possible, then 2 more once the first one is working (hopefully a few days after I get my hands on the first one).

They'll probably only use 5-10W, so who cares.
