6.2.10 Freezing

Installed the new software on my server. Upgraded the clients and now I am getting freezing when playing back video's. It happens at most once per video that I am watching. These are recorded video's as well as Imported Divx files. Never at the same place in the playback. If I stop the video and go to watch it again it will playback the rest of the video with no problems. Dont ever remember having this issue prior to upgrading. I am running java 1.6.0_02-b06 on all the machines including the server. Any one know where i can begin to trouble shoot this dog?

thanks

You could try enabling debug logging to see if the log contains any info about it, but have you changed anything on the system recently? Is there a problem with a video card overheating, or with a hard drive?

Nothing has changed on the system. The freezing is happening on two different client machines. Been very stable until the latest. I do have logging turned on.. I will send them in and see what they find..

I get this quite a bit when I'm messing around with my decoder settings and such. It's always caused by my CPU spiking to 100% briefly. Once this happens the video immediately freezes even though the audio continues.

Other then upgrading or finding a good combination of decoders and settings to reduce the CPU load you could increase the priority of the sageTV client (depending on what you're doing you may have a SageTV.exe and a client in the process/services list). This will cause an occasional max-headroom like hiccuping when it pegs the CPU but it should snap out of it and you won't lose your video.

If you don't know how to do that...CTRL-SHFT-ESC to get to the process list. Right click on the sageTV client. Set priority to above normal. That should give it priority over other things when the CPU pegs and allow it to not lock the video.

This may not be your problem, but watch your CPU usage when the problem is happening and see if you're running close to 100%.

I experienced this problem after a fresh OS install and 6.2.10 upgrade.
I actually installed the 6.6 divx codec before installing Sage. On trying to playback divx files, Sage would freeze and crash. I uninstalled the 6.6 codec and went back to the 6.4 codec and that seemed to fix the problem. I didn't have the 6.6 installer to try again but I downloaded the most recent divx installer (6.7) and that also seems to work without a problem. I think I am just gonna put this problem down to a corrupted download/install of the 6.6 codec.
