yes.............i have 2 hdpvr running BTV4.9.2b2 and folks there have the same range of problems...........the drivers are unstable, whether it is due to spdif stability (or lack thereof), sensitivity to heat or (fill in your problem here).

i have a C1 and a D2............i stand them on end for better air circulation and point a usb powered fan at them...............i've been pretty lucky compared to most folks and have rare lockups only...........but after all this time, i'm getting pretty frustrated that in a year hauppuage hasn't been able to get this working cleanly.

the files play very nicely on my sage hd200 though!

Here's the likely scenario:

Hauppauge has a hardware flaw, and they know it.

Hauppauge is a small company, and they can't afford a recall (e.g. to admit they have a hardware problem).

Hauppauge will swap out units if you complain enough, although they will set a hurdle by saying the problem has to be reproducible in TMT. This lets them tell themselves they are doing the right thing without costing too much.

I don't expect this can get fixed with drivers. Maybe with enough cooling the problem is minimized/eliminated.

That's a little too much speculation for me. Don't forget that they had no problem swapping out a ton of units when they were first released and having heat-related issues. They even went so far as to limit sales so that they could resolve the issue and had enough units to replace the affected ones. I've had no issue getting my units swapped out to a later revision either. I'm not exactly a big fan of their drivers, but I won't buy into a conspiracy theory at this point.

Of course it's never that simple or black and white, and I wouldn't call it a conspiracy even if on the mark. That would just be the way business typically works/thinks in my experience. Of course, I just don't like being sold something that doesn't work right and the company that sold it to me won't even acknowledge the issue.

Anyway, I've probably dropped enough complaining messages on here so I'll try and stick to constructive facts

EDIT: By the way, this is NOT A SOFTWARE/DRIVER ISSUE. If it were software then you wouldn't have to power cycle the HD-PVR; a reboot would fix the lockup. I suppose in theory Hauppauge could update the firmware or driver so as not to trip the event, but it appears either they're not interested in doing this or its not possible.

Or, they have a hardware flaw and they DON'T know it (yet). The "optimistic" part of me wants to believe that the problems will be resolved (soon) with a driver update, but the "realistic" side of me is agreeing with your theories.
