Define your own compression preset
Hi, I've recently converted from BeyondTV, and one of the features i really liked was that I was able to define my own preset for compression (bit rate, container, 2-pass, etc..). Is there any way to do this in Sage v7?
Thanks, BradVido |

Ditto. That would be a great feature as .avi and .mkv files with AC3 audio 5.1 don't play back on linux. The audio is not decoded. Stereo sources in AC3 work though...

So, this isn't currently possible? Is there some obscure .ini or .xml file where the compression settings can be tweaked?
If not, I will have to compress them with Handbrake. Does anyone know of a tool i can use to clean up corrupted frames in my .mpeg2 over-the-air recordings so they can be compressed without error? See here for more detail. Last edited by bradvido; 12-01-2010 at 09:14 PM. |

All the compression profiles are stored in sage.properties.
You can add additional profiles there. SageTV needs to be stopped before you edit sage.properties Don't alter any of the existing profiles as your changes will be rewritten back to defaults the next time SageTV start. John |

In addition to adding your profiles to your properties file you may want to check out MediaShrink. http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...05&postcount=1 It's a slick tool. Also, as far as cleaning up your MPG's I believe that VideoRedo's QuickStreamFix will do what you're asking.

Thanks for the helpful info. I'm now able to define my own presets.
Is it documented anywhere what Sage uses to do the compression, so i can know which options are valid to pass in? |

OK, I am having trouble adding my own compression definition to the sage.properties file. It keeps getting over-written. I stop sage TV before editing.
I copied the Default HD h264 medium, changed the name to "Custom" and changed the bit rate. So I added this line: Code:
transcoder/formats/MPEG4\ HDTV-Custom\ Quality\ H.264\ MKV=f\=matroska;MCompressionDetails\=-coder 1 -flags +loop -cmp +chroma -partitions +parti8x8+parti4x4-partp8x8-partb8x8 -me_method dia -subq 1 -me_range 16 -g 250 -keyint_min 25 -sc_threshold 40 -i_qfactor 0.71 -b_strategy 1 -qcomp 0.6 -qmin 10 -qmax 51 -qdiff 4 -bf 3 -refs 1 -directpred 1 -trellis 0 -flags2 +bpyramid-mixed_refs+wpred+dct8x8+fastpskip-mbtree -wpredp 0 -rc_lookahead 0;[bf\=vid;f\=h264;br\=3000000;][bf\=aud;] Any ideas? |
