Digital Tuners

I had a new coax run in my house today and while the tech was there I took the time to tell him that the guide the cable company was passing out had the wrong major and minor numbers on some the the digital channels (as reported by my HDHR). He asked how old the tuner was. When I enquired why that mattered he said some of the older digital tuners detected the signals improperly but newer tuners did not have this problem.

Is this true or is the guy blowing smoke up my nose? How could one tuner see the digital channel on one major/minor and another tuner see it on a totally different major/minor?

I think what you may be seeing is the difference between logical channels and physical channels.

HDHR may be seeing physical channels. I have a TV that sees logical channels.
