Help Migrating from Vista and v6 to Ubuntu 16.04 and v9

Hi Experts,

Really need help with conversion - it's broken. I'm not a Linux user and don't know more than very basic. I've looked over posts for days but I'm not able to put all the information together.

I have a setup from Dec 2008. Sage v6.x on Win Vista with SD HD Homerun two tuner (that Silicon does not update firmware anymore). The EPG ending was the final straw.

I blew away windows directory and reformatted "C:\" with EXT4 and installed Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. I left "E:\" an extra HDD (1 TB) as NTFS and left all old recordings on that. It is now sdb1.

Got java on Ubuntu and the Sage server installed. Could watch live TV. Did not get the old recordings or favorites/series recordings back into new setup (I could not get SageTV service to let go of Wiz). I did sign up for SD EPG and got that working. I set up a few favorites and could watch live tv and record.

Then something broke and I cannot view video (not imported, Live TV, or recording).

Please help and talk slowly - I can not control Linux and still learning the environment.

Thanks,

Nathan

I do not have any ideas for your current setup as I have not run SageTV on Ubuntu. However, you might want to look at using unRAID. It is Linux based, but management is vastly simplified (web GUI). There is also a SageTV package (docker) that makes installing / upgrading a click or two. And it's well supported (there is a subforum here just for it). It is not a free product, but if you are not comfortable with Linux it may be well worth it.

The main problem is why Ubuntu 16.04 will not show video (video from hard drive and HDHR stream).

When I first installed Ubuntu and SageTV server, I could play videos and watch live TV. Now when I tune to a TV station in Sage or even use the HDHomeRun Config to view a channel - it just displays black (no video).

Thanks,

Nathan

Is the partition where the videos are stored owned by the user running sagetv (maybe called sagetv or whatever you are running it under). Also is that directory readable by the owner?
